I bought a salad blend that has 40% iron since I was low at my last blood draw. But I also noticed that it has 280% DV of vitamin A...is that too much? Should I avoid this?
Because it's a fat-soluble Vitamin (aka it is stored in your liver for a bit), Vitamin A toxicity does exist. However, you'd have to take more than 2x the daily limit and you'd have to do it pretty regularly. So long as you don't eat it too frequently, don't worry about it.
The vitamin-A you derive from vegetables is actually in the beta-carotene form...your body would convert to retinol (the active form of vitamin A) as needed. Retinol is the form that you can get too much of and it's found in amimal based products, many vitamins, fortified foods etc.
If you look at your multivitamin label you're actually very likely to see it says 'Vitamin A, 100% as beta-carotene' or some proportion.
Re: Too much vitamin A?
yep to that^^^
and the studies have only been done with synthetic Vit.A- such as the Vit. A in cheap Multi's or added to food (or the type in acne meds).
Vit.A is actually a super important vitamin, essential to building strong bones for you and baby and can actually help to re-calcify your teeth!
