same here my 2 year old has asked but I dont think she fully understands it is going to hurt her. we will not get our girls ears done until they can understand what it means.
DH and I talked about it. He wants her to have them done, I was iffy. When I was a baby I kept having severe allergic reactions to the metal (I need 24k gold earrings) so we decided to try it once with real gold studs, if it gets infected or allergic, she can decide when she is older to chance it.
It took me YEARS to finally get my holes to stay. I could get my belly button pierced but my ears were another story. I was finally 18 when I got my ears done. I was petrified of the gun.
Probably not until she's in the 10-12 year old range, if she wants them pierced and has proven to be responsible enough to care for them (keep them clean).

She goes for her 2 month appt on Friday, and we will probably get her ears pierced within the next month. The pedi said to wait until she has her 2 month vaccines.
She will not be getting her ears pierced until she is old enough to ask to have them done and fully capable of understanding the decision to get them done. DH and I haven't decided on that appropriate age yet.

So are we, but we'll probably require that she's at least 5 or so.
To be honest, I think that earrings on babies look tacky.

I got mine done at 9yrs old. I think that's an appropriate age for DD to make that decision. If she wants them done, she will be old enough to take care of them during the healing process herself.
hmmm. we are doing our two month check up today and we were thinking about getting them done sometime before the end of the year. i found some tiny little earrings at james avery that i thought were cute and small enough for a baby. i'm just not sure though.
My 3 year old DD has asked for hers done, but she doesn't understand that it's going to hurt and she won't be able to play with them. We probably won't get hers done until she's at least 5 because we refuse to get them done with a gun. I had several of mine done with a gun when I was younger, but now I realize that there is no actual way for them to sterilize the gun besides an alcohol pad and that just grosses me out.
She has to be old enough to take care of them. So she will probably be between 10 and 12. I had mine done right before I turned 12 and my mom never had to mess with them because I was old enough to read the directions on the solution and could clean and care for them myself.
10 years at the earliest, and they have to ask for it. They have to be able to look after them by themselves. I had mine done at 10 and I still remember how much it hurt. I never pierced anything more after that.
I got mine done at 6 and cared for them on my own. DD1 is 5.5 and asked for them a few months ago. I said okay, DH was on the fence, so I didn't bring it up to her again. She has since forgotten, lol. If she brings it up again we probably will do it.
DD1 got hers done at 3.5...she gave up her binkies in order to get them. I cleaned them, she doesn't mess with them and she didn't even cry when she got them. DD2 has been asking for them, she is 2. I think we will get them for her when she is potty trained...which we haven't started yet.
Re: dd's ears pierced. yes or no and when?

This!

Probably once she is old enough to take care of them herself, and not to bother with them too much.
She has asked me several times for "pretties in her ears" and I just tell her when she's old enough she can have them. I'm thinking 5 or 6?
DD2: February 2014
But then I just took my 11 year old sister to get hers done last weekend, and it was so exciting for her! So I think I might wait.
This. Age 5 at the earliest though.

We are getting them done when the girls are 4 months old. I had them done as a baby as well.
