Pregnant after a Loss

High Risk Pregnancy Question

Does anyone know when the average time is for a woman to have an OB appointment when she is a high risk pregnancy and she just tested positive? Should it be immediately, 4 wks, 7 wks, etc?

Re: High Risk Pregnancy Question

  • You should probably ask this on the high risk board.

I guess it depends on what you mean as high risk..I am 40 and had 3 losses so I saw my doctor every  week from 5 weeks on ... If you were high risk I would definitely think they would want serial betas

This and I agree with the other post depending on your situation and the cause of your high risk they may see you first thing and run test or they may wait till they can see growth/hb etc by u/s and adjust visits from there.

It all depends on the doc as well.  I am High Risk as well and with DD#2 I had to switch docs abruptly due to insurance issues and the first doc was about to start me on 2 wk visits to keep an eye on my cervix, but the new doc kept me at monthly visits but I still did random u/s to check LO and cervix.

  • Yeah may depend on situation, I had mc and 2 tubals so as soon as I tested positive I was calling the office. Good Luck!

  • I should clarify -- my OB wanted to see me and run betas and do u/s right away, but I was not by the actual high-risk Dr's until it was deemed viable. I see two sets of Dr.s during each pregnancy.

  • My ob wanted to see me right away for beta and bloodwork.

And than starting at 15 weeks I have checks every 2 weeks.

  • Mine wanted to see me right away and then every 2 weeks for first trimester.  Now every month seems so long!  However, it depends on reason for high risk and sometimes on the doctor.  Either way, you should call right away and they'll let you know.

  • ok gotcha. i didnt know if there was specific policies that are usually followed or if it depended on each person. I have had miscarriages and am considered overweight....thats why...i just wanted to find out if I should be asking for something specific like immediate appointments or what. but i'll go with whatever my ob and high risk specialist tell me. sometimes i just dont trust everything docs say and i dont want to lose another one because of doc error. Thanks everyone! :)
