Another flying ?

I know everyone says you should feed or offer a paci on take-off and landing.  Our flight leaves at 9 pm (her normal bedtime) and arrives around midnight.  What if she is still sleeping during landing?  Would you wake her up to feed?  She won't take a paci.

Re: Another flying ?

  • I would try she is probably going to wake up anyway when her ears start to pop/hurt. You may be able to save some discomfort, not to mention a little bit of crying! :)

  • You don't have to fully wake her up do you?  If you just rouse her slightly she will probably be able to latch on.  I know I've fed both kids when they are practically asleep (or you could say practically awake) plenty of times.  They both tend to eat really well when they are basically sucking in their sleep.

I don't about bottle feeding, but I assume it would be similar.

  • DS was almost 7 months the first time we flew with him. If he was asleep when we landed I let him sleep and he did fine. I figured he needed the sleep and if he got uncomfortable he would wake up and I could feed him then. Plus he had his own seat and was in his carseat which is kind of where I wanted him to be just in case.

He slept right through it all though.

I would allow the baby to sleep.  Have a bottle/paci ready if he wakes up during the landing.

  • I wouldn't wake her. We just flew with DS a couple weeks ago (four flights total) and he slept through 3 takeoffs and 4 landings without a fuss. He didn't have a pacifier or anything. When he was awake I nursed him during take off (as soon as the flight attendants were sitting as they tell you he has to be held upright.. silliness!).

My other piece of advice - don't overthink or stress about the trip too much! It's not worth it. They are super easy to travel with at this age (aside from the diaper changes on the plane.. that's not really easy heh...)

    Good luck, you'll do great!
