I am SO EXCITED to introduce my beautiful new nephew Joshua, who was born this weekend:
Isn't he a doll? I love him so much already, and am sad that it will be probably be months before I meet him. But I am super psyched that he is in great health, and all is very well.
Also, I wanted to tell you guys the CRAZY birth story- proof positive that you never know how your birth is going to go, and no matter how much you plan, and think you know what's going to happen, you have to be ready to expect the unexpected.
This was my sisters second baby. She expected the birth to be similar to the first, and worried about everything she could because she is a serious worry wart.
She had hired a doula, fretted about babysitting issues for months, shopped for and packed the perfect hospital kit, chosen a doctor who would be on call 24-27 to assist her birth, made the decision to have an epidural (although her first birth was med free) and worried about a million other things that ended up going out the window.
Why? Because after thinking she had a stomach ache from eating too much ice cream at night, and then thinking she was constipated for a while the next morning, at about 11:30 AM she suddenly started having VERY strong contractions and realized she was in labor.
By 12:00 p.m. (A HALF AN HOUR LATER!!!) The baby was born, at home, in her brand new king size bed!!! With her son playing peacefully in the other room! The EMT and her doula had barely walked in the door before the baby had popped out.
ISN'T That awesome?!?! I think she was pretty freaked to have an unplanned home birth at first, but whatever, I would love that!! (The baby was 100% fine and there were no complications, thank god) Sign me up!! Don't know if it will happen for my first baby, but you can bet I will have my fingers crossed if I have any more...
Just wanted to share that with you guys. Expect the unexpected, for real!!!
Re: My Sis had her baby! (PIP)- Must read birth story!!
Wow, that's amazing, glad it all worked out
He's a cutie pie!
That's amazing! How wonderful and congratulations Auntie! Just goes to show how manageable contractions *can* (because I'm sure not all births are that easy) be if you aren't full of fear.
Beautiful! He is so cute.
First, that is the cutest little baby ever!
What an incredible birth story! I can't imagine going through something like that! I'm so glad they're both doing great!
Congrats on being an aunt again!!!
And as much as something like that would terrify me, part of me almost hopes I have a similar story because it will be over before I know it!!
Right? It was surprising to me, since she had given birth before (and obviously her early contractions were much stronger the first time) that she didn't even recognize them as contractions. I guess they can really vary, not just from person to person, but from birth to birth.
First, what an adorable baby!!!
Ok that is quick labor!! I am totally freaked out by this. We just moved to a new place. We *were* 10 minutes from the hospital. But now we are 30-40 minutes, depending on the day and time of day. Ack!!! My mom had QUICK labors with me and my brother so I am a little worried.
However, with my GD, and knowing I will be induced at 39 weeks if I don't go into labor before that, I guess I'm just going to try and be prepared. At the slightest sign of labor I will probably want to head towards the hospital (even if we have to wait it out at my mom's house, which is much closer to the hospital).
Oh no, don't get freaked out! As far as I can tell, this is very uncommon (despite the fact that it happens on every single sitcom).
Also, for the record, my sister was very impressed with the professionalism, bedside manner, and level of training of the EMTs. Should this happen to any of us, I hope our local EMTs would be as great as they were.
He is such a doll!! I love how her other child was playing in the room while she is giving birth! What happened after the EMT unit arrived? Did she go to the hospital? I know this is insignificant...how did her new king bed hold up?
CHEERS to you and your nephew!
Thanks for the congratulations everyone!
After the EMT arrived, they did take her and the baby for the hospital for two nights. (The bag she had packed was not that helpful since her DH forgot to leave it in her room for the first night...)
She would not call the condition of the bed injsignificant, as it was a huge purchase, and I think she JUST bought it on credit. As PP mentioned, she was smart enough to get a waterproof pad for it, so it was totally fine.
I am so looking into one of those for our bed now. Hadn't even thought of that. (I think it could come in handy for after baby is born as well, in case baby does his thang on our bed)
That is unreal! WOW!
But more importantly - can we talk about Joshua's little lips?? They are so tiny & cute!
He is so precious! Congrats Auntie!
JK that was the very first thing I noticed too! I think he has a beautiful little heart-shaped mouth.
Such a great story!!! And, what a handsome little nephew you have.
When was she due?
OH. MY. GOD.
Way to break in the new bed! And that baby is GORGEOUS!
Welcome, Joshua!
