I have read that some people pump during or after each feeding. Can someone please educate me on this...LO is almost 6 weeks old and I have never done this. He is currently feeding on one breast per feeding. I usually pump in the mornings after his first feeding around 6:30am. The only other time I pump is to get relief because of engourgment. I have no clue what I'm doing!! Any help will be greatly appricated!! Thanks!
Re: Pumping after LO nurses?
I did this to empty them out because I made more than DS ate. I used this for freezer stash.
Now if I pumped after he ate, I'd get nothing!
Well it depends on your situation. For me, I had to go back to work at 6 weeks so I pumped after every single feeding in the beginning at least so I could make more milk and make sure my body was use to the pump. This does trigger your body to produce more milk but that's what I wanted.

With Drew, I pumped after first morning feeding for a while to build a small freezer stash (10-12 bags of 4 oz each) and then I only ever pumped when he was getting a bottle. I SAH for the first year and didn't need to do any more than that.
If you want a bigger freezer stash, you can pump more often and store it. If you want to try and increase your supply, you can pump more often to increase the "demand" on your body. Pumping is what you make of it and there's no "right way."
Ditto, but I also pump between 3 and 4 am when she STTN.
