If you have a Peapod tent...

If you have a Peapod tent, do you have the self-inflating one or the one with a hand pump? Is the hand pump a pain? I think we're reaching the end of DS's time sleeping in the pack n play at the grandparents' houses, and I'm trying to figure out what to get. If I get the Peapod, we'd need the larger size, but it doesn't look like that there is a self-inflating version in that size.

I've also considered just getting a small air mattress (something like this). Any thoughts on one vs. the other for an older toddler?

  • I don't really have a daughter who roams, so perhaps this won't work for all children, but I just bought her a pretty sleeping bag and she does well in it.

I didn't even know there was a self-inflating version.  We have the larger size with the hand pump and don't find it to be an inconvenience.  It only takes like two minutes.  The only problem we have is getting the stopper into the mattress in time to not lose air - we usually have to repump a little at least once.  Still, if I was going to spend that much on a brand new one, I was definitely going to get the larger size to get my money's worth.  DD loved it before passing it down to DS - no battles to get her in at all.

DD is a mover in her sleep, so no travel mattresses would work for her - she needed to be contained in a peapod.  Same with DS (though he hasn't accepted it yet as anything other than a play tent).  But keep in mind that they can figure out how to unzip it themselves from the inside (unless you do some rigging), so it's not a surefire way to keep them in one spot.

  • I think the self inflating mattress in only a feature of the smaller tent.  And no, I don't think the pump is a pain.  It takes just a minute to inflate the larger mattress.
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • we have the one with the hand pump and I think it's super easy. it only takes a couple minutes to inflate it.

  • The hand pump is really easy and we have even blown it up ourselves when we forgot the pump at my sister's.

I liked the tent because it contained Maggie.  We could say she had to stay in it and not unzip it.  We only just moved to a blow up bed like you posted because she is old enough I trust her to stay in bed and she was disliking the tent and asking to sleep with us (not comfy for anyone involved).
