Wedding toast inspiration?

I'm going to be a bridesmaid for a wedding in two weeks, and since there isn't a MOH, the bride has asked me to give a toast.

I think I would be most comfortable with some kind of format (top 10 list, witty poem, a play on song lyrics, something like that) as opposed to simply talking about the bride and groom... but I'm afraid of getting too corny.  Does anyone have experience with writing toasts or know of a good resource for inspiration?

TIA!

  • I don't have any resources, but funny is ALWAYS good.  I would use something personal about the bride and groom and then put a twist on it.  Do they love Travel?  Do they play WOW?  Then use that theme to tie it to love, and long-lasting marriage.

  • It's always good to throw some "funny" into your toast but just be sure to end on an "Awwww."  I think a Top 10 list or something like that is good -just make your #1 reason something sentimental and kind of sweet.  And keep it personal -in other words, don't make some generic speech about how great love is and how great it is that the bride and groom are in love.  But something more along the lines of why Bride and Groom are such a special couple or what it is about them that will make their marriage last forever.

I wouldn't worry about it being too corny or silly.  So long as you end it with that personal moment that makes everyone say, "Awww" and want to raise their glasses then all the corniness will be "earned" and your toast will be remembered as wonderful.  :)
