Pregnancy and taking care of little one

I currently have a 5 month old and I just found out I'm pregnant again. With subsequent pregnancies I had terrible "morning" sickness. Unable to get out of bed without vomiting to the point of dry heaving. My concern is how in the heck am I going to take care of my DS if I'm sick. I took Zofran with Reglan and that helped a little bit but it didn't take care of the nausea/vomiting completely. We don't have any family in the area. Anyone ever been in this situation before? I think I may have to look into a full time nanny for about 8 weeks. :-/

Re: Pregnancy and taking care of little one

  • This is what I'm worried about, we're TTC at the end of this month and all I can think about was how completely useless I was for 2.5 months last time with sickness. H is military too so half the time he's gone before DS wakes up and home after he's in bed. If you figure out how to handle it let me know!

I got pregnant around the same time. I'm currently 25 weeks and it's much better now, but the beginning wasn't awful either. At 5/6 months DD was still napping 2-3 times a day and I just slept when she slept. Plus she thought when I got sick (throwing up, sorry TMI) was pretty funny! She would laugh at me every time! While I wasn't sick enough for Zofran or anything like that, I certainly wasn't NOT sick. You have much less time to dwell on being sick because you are so busy with your first LO. There's really nothing that I can't do that I did before getting pregnant in regards to taking care of DD. You definitely adapt quickly and soon it feels like you were always pregnant and taking care of an infant! Smile

I got pregnant when DD was about 5 months too. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty tough. I honestly can't imagine SAH and taking care of DD for the whole pregnancy. (I currently work). The first tri was difficult with the exhaustion, and the 3rd tri has been hard due to the physical aspect and the fact that DD is now mobile! It's just one of those things that you make it through. It will be fine! GL. :)
  • I honestly didnt find that time frame too difficult. With that being said, I was run down and queasy, but not that ill.

The great thing about infants is they nap a lot. Rest when the baby does. Do you formula feed? If so, get playtex drop ins for less cleaning. Get a bunch of nipples so you only have to clean them once a day. Throw some toys in bed with you, and lay down all day in bed with LO. That's the benefit of being pregnant with an infant-that would never work with a toddler for very long!

GL and congrats! I found out I was pregnant right before DS was 5 months, and they're 12.5 months apart. It is so much fun. :)

  • I was really sick my first trimester with this LO to the point I was put on Zofran at 7 weeks.  All I can say that, as a mother, you just learn to deal with it.  Now that I am feeling better, I am glad that I got through that when DS was pretty much immobile.  I can;'t imagine chasing around a toddler and being that sick!

I was also very exhausted my first trimester, so I would nap when he napped (I am a SAHM) and I would also go to bed when he went to bed.  Luckily a little baby keeps you so busy that the time really seems to fly!

  • Thanks ladies! Hopefully, this will be a completely different pregnancy and I won't be as sick! (A girl can dream, right?) If not, I will have to try and keep on top of taking the Zofran and Reglan and do as some of you suggested, like napping with him etc. Away we go! :-)
