TTC after 35

Questions about the Clearblue OPKs

I just looked at their website and they have a pack of 7 tests and a pack of 20 tests.  If you buy one pack, suppose it's the one with 20 tests...you use some of the tests but not all and if there's no BFP, then can you still use the remaining tests in the box or is it no good and you have to buy a whole new box? There's no FAQs on that site so I have no clue.

The worst part for me is I don't know when the first day of my last period was because I spotted for about three days (really thought it was IB) until AF started to flow heavier. So, it's either July 3rd or July 6th.  My cycles are pretty irregular. Usually averaging 23-25 days but I went 39 days the last time before this one which is either 14 or 17 days depending on how you define spotting as AF or not.

Which pack would be better for me? The 7 or the 20?

TIA!!

  • I would go with the 20 since you may need to test multiple times a day to find your surge.  They are individually wrapped so you can use them the next month.  Look on Amazon. Usually you can get them for like $25 (prices change daily so I usually wait for a good sale)

  • Are you talking about the digital tests?  I use those.  I also get them on Amazon.  I buy the biggest pack and only use them for about a week when I think I will detect my surge.  As soon as I do I put the rest away for (unfortunately) the next cycle.  I even keep using the digital part until the battery dies--it usually lasts for 2 packages worth of tests.  Good Luck!

Do you test more than once a day?

  • So just a tip that some of the PP have referenced. Many of us will test twice a day. Luteinizing Hormone will be released overnight/early in the morning and the surge will be picked up by your urine later in the day. I prefer to test in the morning (because its easy and that is what my doctor recommends) and then I also test between 2-5 in the afternoon. Just have to hold my pee for a few hours before and make sure its not too diluted. Those tests get used up fast!

  • The tests do go quickly, so I would get the 20 pack.  Plus, I keep the tester even after the strips are gone.  That way, if I put a strip in the tester and get an error message, I can use a backup without having to wait for the tester to clear.

Thanks for the tip!! I tried the first time yesterday when I got home from work, and again this morning. A big fat blank circle (boo hoo) but the idea of testing again this afternoon like you suggested gives me hope! :) I can't believe I'm getting all excited about ovulation tests.  I just never know when I ovulate due to these irregular periods.
