Hogweed

Uh oh...

DH thinks we have hogweed in our backyard. I went out and checked it out with him and it could very well be hogweed. I am obviously not an expert at identifying this dangerous plant.

Hogweed made an appearance in our city (well, in the news at least) last year and it seems it has been a big problem this year.

He is going to email photos to the city or to the health unit tomorrow to have someone come check it out and remove it properly if it is that.

Ugh.

Well, I thought that the City would come remove it safely, but after doing a bit of research, it seems they don't. How surprising... way to fail again city.

So anyway, if it is hogweed, we have two options:

1 - hire an exterminator who knows how to safely remove it to do it

2 - we do it (carefully - covered from head to toe with eye protection and all), bag it properly, seal it and bring it to the dump. It seems they have a special place to dump hogweed.

If it is hogweed, it'd probably be safer just to have someone else come take care of it.

    I hope its not though!

That's my thinking too. But of course DH has to be stubborn and says he refuses to pay someone to do it.

So if it is hogweed, I already know what our next "discussion" will be.
