c is walking, crawling, etc. he sleeps on a pillow when we co sleep and i think it helps him breathe better to have his head elevated and he loves anything soft and squishy.

At 15 months. We went on a vacation to France & England, co-slept the whole time and every morning DD would wake up snuggled up against the pillow. (I don't remember when before this we had pillows in bed while co-sleeping, she wasn't co-sleeping regularly with us). While in Paris, I found a pillow crib, something I am certain is not sold in the US due to safety regulations, but it was a great product for that age. Perhaps you could recreate it if you're crafty? It was rectangular-shaped and a bit longer than the width of the crib so that the sides kind of tucked in between the mattress and the rails and the pillow couldn't really move during the night. It also wasn't as fluffy as a regular pillow.
It's from the store Petite Pan and here is a similar one from their web site:
I've been wondering about this too because E loves pillows. We have our crib sidecarred & throughout the night he makes his way over into our bed so he can lay his head on my pillow. I always wake up from his curls tickling my face because he's trying to share pillows with me. I've been debating putting his pillow pet in his bed with him, but haven't yet because I was a little uneasy about it. I probably will soon though, as I think he's probably ready.
