DD loves trains, dinosaurs, pirates trucks and cars.
She also loves ballet, Cinderella and princesses. And yoga.
She needs a new lunchbox and I can only find one or the other, never any combo of both. Like I need a dinosaur on one side, and a ballerina on the other.
And I need big girl underwear with dinosaurs and cars.
I don't mind shopping in the toddler boy section for pajamas and shirts she likes, but shopping is becoming quite a chore these days.
Re: Getting annoyed at the toddler stuff being either "boy" OR "girl", never both.
It is super segmented isn't it? So annoying, especially if you had any hope of your boy wearing hand me downs from your girl or vice versa. Most of the boys clothes I've seen lately have been monster trucks (or fast trucks or motorcycles), robots, or aggressive characters (transformers, star wars, etc.). Finding pleasant, happy clothes for boys is my challenge.
I started shopping online because my kids cross the gender borders of what they like. Maybe you can find something on etsy or take a trip to the fabric store and start making stuff? I made DS a batman dress. Yes, a dress. He loves it.
Oh, think geek has a lot of geeky kid stuff for little girls and little boys or either. DD has a "Self rescuing princess" t-shirt. Hahaha!
Oh... btw, DD wears DS's underwear and vice versa when I'm running low on laundry. Neither kid cares that it is boy or girl cut. If that helps.... I don't make a big deal about it and neither do they.
Is there much difference in the cuts? I almost got her a pack of Cars underwear that she would have LOVED but I wasn't sure how different the fit would be.
Yeah, it seems like as soon as they hit toddlerhood, everything becomes SO traditionally girl or boy. I guess when she was younger I didn't feel like there was such a drive to pigeonhole them but now? Wowza.
Have you checked out some of the surfer style clothing lines like Volcomm and Quicksilver? They have stripes, plaids, and happy colors. I check sites like 6pm.com
I hear you. Though DD is more tomboy, less girly than yours. What we do...she wears boy underwear. We have some Dora underwear but we also have Diego and Cars underwear. She chooses to wear boys costumes at Halloween. Her lunchbox and backpack is Toy Story. We have her pick out what she wants and go with that. If she wants a boyish item it's hers but she only gets to pick one, she can't have two. She picks her clothes, and we support her in everything she wants. I just don't let her have something of both. I make sure when we walk away from the store she has what she wants and won't change her mind.
Good luck!
Not a whole lot. It is more like the girl's trend to have boy's cut underwear for gals. I actually think DD gets less wedgies with the boy underwear on. I'd just go for it!
It gets worse, when Emmy showed up to school with a Woody Costume (not Jesse), the girls were saying why are you wearing a boys costume (as all the girls were wearing princess costumes)? I told her class that it's Halloween and you can dress up as anything you want. Geez.
I totally agree!
Natalie is really into Cars lately, but loves all things princess. And don't get me started on how the toy story stuff was all so boyish. Why no girls cars or Toy Story underwear....or cups or toys.
Super annoying.
Totally, Sabrina loves Woody, not Jesse. I mean she likes Jesse well enough but loves Woody. Loves Cars. Loves, loves, loves trains. The funniest thing is she has things like Cars sippy cups and if we have them out in public, someone will try to take it from her and say, "Oh no honey, that's your brother's cup." Um, it's a cup. From a movie. So odd.
Oh man, that stuff would bug me so much. I'm glad it's not an issue I have to confront daily.
As for the underwear, I haven't inspected girl undies lately, but C's Thomas undies are all boy, including the fascinating (to him) pocket/easy access thing in the front. I suppose they make women's undies in that style (which I've always found sort of unsettling), but I can't imagine seeing a little girl wearing them or finding them comfy.
This thread is totally depressing me, ugh. I thought the baby stuff was bad! Gender neutral means yellow and green, and that's all you get. I was thrilled last week when a family friend sent us a 6 month dress that was BLUE. A dress! In blue! Imagine!
Unfortunately I have observed that in order to find girls' clothes or toys that are not pink and purple princesses and hearts, you have to shop at some of the smaller boutique stores. And we all know what that means.

Oh the underwear are definitely all boy, pocket in front and all and Emmy has actually never asked about it. I think the only thing she commented on was why the picture was in the back vs front of underwear for girls.
Right??

Totally!!
I can't tell you how many people have said I must know I'm having a boy and just not telling anyone b/c the room is painted blue, and the clothes are all blue, green and yellow. I thought those were GN colors, but apparently it's pink & purple for girls, and every other color under the sun for boys. There is no GN in babyland. Or toddlerland, apparently.
So cute! Toddler bottoms in silly cartoon underpants are adorable.
This is funny, we just painted Avonlea's nursery last week and have already gotten reactions from every person we've told we painted it blue. I am not a pink or purple girlie girl myself and it didn't even occur to me to paint it those colors
We are going blue and yellow, which I gather is exclusively boy, lol.
Ha ha, my nephews nursery was blue and yellow and my SIL got crap that it was too girly! People are so, so weird!

So for clothes how we've done it is that S wears "boy" shirts with leggings (she doesn't like jeans) or skirts. She dresses herself and often chooses her clothes in the store, too. So a blue t-rex long sleeve shirt with a pink tutu is par for the course.
For underwear, I bought her some "boy" undies, she wound up finding them less comfortable, so now rather than "girl" characters, she just likes plain colors.
I guess our stuff is just a combo, and I find her gathering combinations of stuff- like for camp last week she took her Dora thermos bottle and her dad's Spiderman lunchbox everyday. Totally her mix-match personality.
And everytime she picks something "boy" I think, "Score, hand me downs!"
Sorry, it is tough, sounds like we currently have similar personalities with our S's!
Yeah, she has Skip Hop right now but doesn't like the Owl. Or any of the other options.
We found a dinosaur one she liked. It was labeled, "BOYS LUNCH BOX". Really? Dinosaurs are only for boys? Hmmmmmmmm
My daughter likes skirts...but not underwear....
You do the math on that one
Well excpet the other day when she wore a tu tu and said she had to wear underwear...She showed me...put em on the outside!
br
We bought Lindy boys Toy Story undies. She loved them so much & I just don't care.
We have the same issue. Maybe someone on etsy could make you a lunchbox custom?
