Long shot - doc for endo?

Hi all. I have posted on the DC Nest board off and on, and a couple of times on here. MH and I are TTC, but I am starting to strongly think that I may be dealing with endo. Anyone want to recommend a doc for this? Preferably NoVA or downtown DC, but willing to travel for the right person. TIA!

  • I don't have any experience with endo, but if you've been TTC for a while and you suspect something is wrong, you probably want to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I'm pretty sure they treat endo. We had a great experience with the REs at Shady Grove Fertility Center, and in particular Dr. Nair at the downtown DC location. The results are in my siggy. :)

Thanks - your LOs are adorable! We haven't been trying very long, and I am not seeing this Dr. because I'm not pregnant yet - I want to see someone because I was in the most extreme pain of my life on CD 2 this time around (so I would be going regardless). I mention that we are TTC because it will rule out most of the drugs that are used to manage endo. I'd prefer to see someone very experienced with laparoscopies first if that is what I need, but I will save your rec for if we eventually do need an RE. Downtown DC is certainly convenient for me. Thanks again.

  • I see Dr. Crantz and DH sees Dr. Tanen in Tyson's Corner.

They're with Endocrinology Associates, here is their website: https://endomclean.com/index.php

  • I think that most REs will be familar with endo, but to give you a name--our RE treated a good friend with severe endo during her IF journey: Dr. Greenhouse with Shady Grove. We saw him at Fair Oaks, but he works at some of the other offices. too. Best of luck in your journey to baby and being pain-free!

  • I have been through hell and back with this over the past year and can tell you that there are NO true endo specialists in the DC metro area. You will find plenty of doctors who are willing to operate on you and will promise you the world, but it is really best to go with a true endo specialist who will perform excision. (Some doctors here will also say they do excision, but they don't do it fully). Unfortunately, most of the true endo specialists do not take insurance. After an unsuccessful surgery from an OB/GYN, I ended up traveling for surgery to see a specialist out of the area and am very thankful that I did. The two surgeries in less than a year has been very hard on my body and I would not wish that on anyone - it could have been prevented if I had just gone to the right person the first time around. My best advice for you would be to carefully read the website of the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta, they are some of the best in the country and even if you don't use them, you will learn a lot about what you need to look for in a doctor. If you have any other questions or anything feel free to email me at csp1984 at gmail dot com. Good luck and I really hope for your sake that you don't have it!
