I mean, Alex has a personal trainer already. I guess it wasn't too early ; )
Only kidding. But all of this new focus on 'infant obesity' really bothers me for some reason.

Yes and no. With the 5 month old crowd, I can see how that might be going a bit far, but once they can walk and be more active of their own accord, I believe that setting habits early on can help later on in life.
If anything, maybe putting out these suggestions is just planting the idea in the head of parents that they need to be cognizant of the activity level of their children.

Agreed. Ellie was flipping huge as a baby. She wasn't obese. She was healthy. And now she's a perfectly healthy 3-year-old of average height and weight.
That said, I am already perfecting our baby aerobics routines for the next one. It's never too early to start obsessing over body image!
I can kind of see where they are going with what they are saying, making parents aware of how active their child is, but I can't stand the whole thing about worrying if a baby is obese unless there is a serious problem seen by the doctor and you feed your child well and don't let them sit in front of Barney all day long. DD was in the 95% for weight as a baby and is still in the 90% (60% for height)...with 6-pack abs. I'm not worried, she runs around all.day.long and I don't feed her doritos and soda for breakfast. I know there are kids out there though that do have weight issues but I think under 12 months is a little early to be worrying for most of the population.
If anything, maybe putting out these suggestions is just planting the idea in the head of parents that they need to be cognizant of the activity level of their children.
I fully agree. Sadly, there are too many parents out there who think that leaving a child in his/her crib with a bottle of juice, for a large majority of the day, is perfectly acceptable. If this campaign positively influences just a few of these "parents" to open their eyes, I would consider that a success.

That just makes me sad. Children lifting wights can seriously damage their bone structure and growth.
