NBR: Do you believe in ghosts?

I know... silly question, but now I'm wondering, because last week, my parents took DD to Corpus Christie with them a for short vacation. They stayed at a hotel. In their room, there were two beds, and my mom decided to sleep in one, and my dad in the other (DD slept in her pnp) because the beds were small. My mom said that she kept feeling a large hand rub her leg many times through the night (2am, 4am, and 6am) and she kept telling "it" to leave her alone and yelled for my dad each time, but my dad wouldn't wake up. The next morning, she was really tired, and told my dad about it, and he thought she was just talking in her sleep.  I asked her if she was just dreaming and she said, "No, there was some one in that bed...I'm not crazy.  We will never stay there again.". I've never had an encounter with the 'paranormal' neither has my parents or DH.  Have you? And, did your encounter make you believe in ghosts/spirits?

Re: NBR: Do you believe in ghosts?

  • I haven't but I would freak my freak if something like that happened to me!  I'd be in DH's bed in a second, I don't care if it was twin-sized!

I wouldn't say I believe in ghosts, but that scenario would freak me out too.

KatieAggie as a super scary true ghost story that she's shared before. It gives me the creepies just thinking about it.  We should page her to repost. Smile

It freaked me out just hearing about it. My mom was freaked out for a couple days afterwards. She seems okay now. I totally forgot about KA's story!  That really spooked me too.

  • until it happens to you, i don't think you tend to believe as much.  6 or 7 years ago I had a layover at a westin on the west coast.  they have those big, white down comforters on the beds.  i closed my eyes at 9:57 pm ( i always calculate how many hours i get to sleep, so i try to go to bed on the hour wherever i layover--weird, i know). at 10pm, i felt someone sit down on my bed and all the air go out of that comforter. i broke out in a cold sweat. i thought someone was in my room. a few seconds later, that person was bouncing a little. i freaked. i hit the light and jumped straight up on the bed naked (i had undies). i remembered reading the sight of a naked woman sometimes shocks intruders and i had no weapons close, so what the hell.  i didn't see anyone, so i ran for the door hitting every light i could on my way out. i don't know why i wasn't screaming.  i turned around and no one was there. i stood by the door for a long time. then i imagined myself naked in the hallway, locked out of my room and no intruder in sight.  i waited a long while.  then started opening closets, looking under the bed, etc.  no one.  i know the hotel was in an old building.

i slept a little bit that night with the lights on.  from then on, for a few years i slept with at least a bathroom light. nothing has happened since then, but you just never quite forget something like that.

  • I strongly believe in ghosts.  However, I've never had any experience.  My mom and two of her sisters each saw or felt ghosts in one of the houses they lived in growing up.  It was a little boy and his mom.  My mother always felt someone touching her face.  Her younger sister always saw a little boy, and her older sister always saw a mother.  They were never together.  Her younger sister said the boy was usually crying and would ask "where is my mommy?"  My mom and her sisters were between the ages of 2-7 at the time.

I also have a cousin that was at a family reunion and one of the little ones..5 maybe? came running back from the baseball field looking for his uncle.  They told him he hadn't come yet.  The kid kept saying, yes he is I saw him and he waved to me.  He even said he was wearing a red shirt and a red baseball cap.  They got a call an hour later saying their uncle died in a car crash...wearing, yup, a red shirt and red baseball cap.

  • I always think that I don't believe, but if I didn't then why would these stories freak me the eff out so much?  I knew I shouldn't have opened this post b/c I would freak out, yet I still did.  I'm a glutton for punishment.

    this, word for word!

  • I don't know if I believe in ghosts or not. I definitely believe in spiritual warfare, but as for spirits of people that continue to "haunt" a place after they die, I'm not sure.

That being said, I say we have electrical issues in our house because I desperately want it to be true. Randomly our bedroom light will flip on in the middle of the night. Or flicker off and on really fast like someone is flipping the switch. Never any other time but the middle of the night and it's always accompanied by a really eerie feeling for both me and DH. About a year after we moved in, our house alarm started going off in the middle of the night - we both thought someone was breaking in. DH opened the door to our bedroom (with his baseball bat Stick out tongue) and we both saw a shadow move on the wall outside our room (thank GOD Will was still sleeping in our bed at the time!!) - I called 911 immediately. Police checked the entire house out and no one was found in our house...I guess technically they could have left, but all the doors/windows were locked, so we can't figure out how. No matter how many times we entered the code to shut off the alarm, we couldn't turn it off. We had to cut the wires from the whole freaking thing and have ADT come install a new one! It freaked me out for a good 6 months!!

So I don't know what I believe. I don't think our house is haunted per say - it just has electrical issues...or at least that's what I say so I can sleep at night!! Wink

  • Creepy stories!

I believe.  I don't have time to post out all of my reasons but I'm a big believer.  At various times throughout my life I've experienced things that I can't come up with any explanation for.  Sometimes it's a feeling or sound or other times it's been something as crazy as a big box fan (not the kind you're used to seeing but a big, old heavy one) flying across the room without being touched.  No joke here.  It was scary as $hit!  I have a few stories but none are really as creepy as what you guys have posted.  Overall, I just wanted to say yes, I believe.  (And I like reading the stories of things that others have experienced even though it scares the crap out of me sometimes.)

  • That is so creepy.

Yes, I do.  I was in a horrible car wreck shortly after my great grandfather died.  I won't get into specifics but I absolutely believe my great grandpa's ghost was there and saved my life.

That totally gave me (good) chills. If you have time, I'd love to hear the story!!

  • MIL's house has a ghost of a little girl. She randomly shows up in pictures, you hear her walking upstairs, knocking on doors etc.

When DD was 1yrs old she was in my SIL's room where said little girl is supposed to be in a closet.  DD walked up to the closet and knocked on the door yelling baby which is what she called all kids at that age. At 1 yrs old DD is too young to understand nor did we ever discuss it around her.

Everytime we go back to MIL's DD "plays with and talks" to the little girl. Like she has full on out loud verbal conversations and no one is there. Freaks us out every time.

  • I don't necessarily believe in "ghosts" in the traditional sense of the word, but I believe there is some kind of paranormal activity that people experience that science has not explained yet.

I tend to believe most (not all) of the stories people tell me when they feel their loved ones have visited after their deaths.

The general consensus is that there is something living in my house.

First expierence - I was folding laundry, listening to music in my bedroom. The glass cover that enclosed the radio (that was so hard to open, I'd broken nails on it before) swung open. Not only did the volume turn down audibly, I could see the knob that controls the volume turning. Both dogs jumped up and started barking and going crazy. And you know how they show in movies the temperature dropping? I don't know if it was just me getting the chills, but I was freezing all the sudden.

Another time, we can home and had a couple with us. I was the last to walk in the house. When I came in, the ceiling fan at the top of the stair well, whose switch is at the top of the stairs, clicked and turned off. I heard the switch flip and saw the fan stop turning. I assumed my husband was upstairs, but he and our friends were in the kitchen. No one had been upstairs at all, and yet sure enough, the switch had been flipped. My girlfriend watched the fan slow down, got goosebumps, and left immidiately Wink

Another time, I was sitting in my living room with a girlfriend and her daughter when they jumped up and started shouting. A candle, which hadn't been used in a couple days, burst into flames - candle holder and all.

Most recently ... We have some letters on the wall in the nursery hung by ribbon. They are under the air vent and when the AC is blowing, they wave in the blowing air. The other day my mother and I were in the nursery and that ribbon was blowing. However, neither the AC nor the fan were blowing. We looked all around and couldn't find anything that was making the ribbon blow.

I'll keep it brief.  I was in a pick up, no seat belt, sitting up front in the middle seat.  We ended up flying off the road and rolling.  The guy to my left (driver) was thrown from the car and died, the guy to my right was also partially ejected.  As we were rolling, I very distinctly felt a pair of arms wrap around me and keep me planted in my seat, and as soon as the car stopped, there was this eerie quiet and I could see and feel this image of my great grandpa (that sounds crazy, I know, but I did).  He was the calmest, kindest man and I just know from the bottom of my heart he was there and wrapped his arms around me as we rolled to keep me safe.

Anyway.  Now I feel all goose bumpy again.

ps: it's definitely electrical problems. Believe that.

  • Mine, as requested (I actually googled it so I didn't have to type it out again, LOL).  Also, because someone always asks, the address was 1420 Hillside (right behind the original Walmart/2818 area).

October of 1997, my BFF and I were roommates. We were attending Texas A&M U in College Station, TX. This is a town that revolves around the University, and duplexes are hard to come by, because most of the off campus students snatch them up. We had a fire in our duplex--we got out, got our dogs out, but the place was unlivable. Our landlord was super supportive and understanding. He said he had another duplex available if we wanted it. We were relieved and thrilled. The new duplex was very nice and was in a great location.

The first day there, A (my BFF) was joking with our landlord and said ?well, at least we burned the poltergeist out of the old duplex.? He said, ?oh, there?s a ghost that lives here,? and we laughed.

The first night we stayed there, my boyfriend, M, spent the night. We were in bed (going to sleep--get your minds clean, ladies), dog on the bed with us. On top of my dresser, I had a folded t-shirt, with a couple of dollar bills and some change laying on the shirt. I distinctly heard 2 pieces of change drop on my dresser. I decided I was imagining things and fell asleep. The next day, M asked me if I heard anything the night before. I asked him what he meant--he heard the same thing I had. I brushed it off and moved on.

Weird stuff started happening. We?d go to bed at night, turn everything off, and wake up in the morning to lights, TV, stereo, all on. There was an incident where A was messing with me, hitting flashback on one of two remotes we had, so the TV kept switching between 2 channels. I made her stop. About 5 minutes later, the TV started switching again. I said, ?A, stop.? She said she wasn?t even holding the remote. I grabbed the remote, thinking the button was stuck. Then the TV started going through every single channel, instead of doing the flashback thing. We turned it off. Another night, A and I were in the front yard smoking, and she said ?Katie--look.? I looked up, and the very top blind was pulled now on the window--like someone was peeking out at us. Then it popped closed. We FREAKED out, and called our friend Matt, who came over and searched the house (with a plastic baseball bat in his hand--yeah, that?ll do damage). There was no one there.

A few weeks passed without incident. Then one night I got out of bed around 1am, because my back was hurting and I couldn?t sleep. I went in the kitchen to take advil. We had a sliding glass door in our kitchen, and a street light right outside it, so the kitchen was always lit even without the lights on. I was looking out for roaches (gotta love Texas), because we had a roach problem and I?m scared to death of roaches. Instead, I walk in and there is a woman sitting at my kitchen table. She?s in the first chair, sitting straight up. Older, with gray hair in a bun. I stared for a second, and then turned to look at the light switch. I turned on the light, and she was gone.

I walked into A's room and freaked out. The next night we got up at the same time, and went in the kitchen. I wanted to see if maybe there were shadows that time of night that made me think there was someone sitting there. No shadows, as well lit as ever. A even sat in the seat to show me the difference. I have NO DOUBT that there was a woman sitting there the night I saw her.

From that point on, when we?d go to bed, we?d flip off lights and not look back. I would literally run from the light switch in the hallway to my bed. There were a few minor incidents (like lights coming on, the channel changing, etc.)after that, and 2 that stick out.

I went to bed one night, and literally had been in bed maybe 5 minutes. I heard someone say my name twice, in a loud whisper. ?Katie. Katie.? I really would?ve thought I imagined it, but my dog sat straight up and started growling. I grabbed her and we hid under the covers. Needless to say, I didn?t sleep much that night.

The last incident--we had moved to a new duplex, a few streets away, but still had a few things at the old place. A and I went back to get a few things. We?d been there for a couple of minutes, and A said ?we need to leave.? The best way I can describe it is the feeling you get when you KNOW you?re being watched. That feeling where every.hair.stands.straight.up. That feeling where you know you?re not welcome. I?d felt it too, but figured I was just freaking myself out. The entire drive home, I kept looking in the rearview window, sure I would see her sitting there. From there on out, we only went back with a third person--they?d stand at the front door, holding it open, and A and I would go room to room together to get stuff.

In the following year, I saw 4 sets of people move in and out of that duplex. In a 12 month period. In a town where no one would sign you to less than a 9 month lease.

I never, ever want to experience anything like that again.

Is it just me, or do the italics make it scarier?  Stick out tongue

  • I love ghost stories.  :)  And I wholeheartedly believe in ghosts.
