Baby Names

How popular do you think Harper will get now?

While I'm of course happy for the Beckhams, I'm a little disappointed about their baby name.. We had finally decided on Harper for DD #2 and honestly, it took a while for me to really grow to love it. (DH adores it).  And now I'm afraid it's going to get wayy too popular.  I was trying to avoid that as DD#1's name is so popular now.  Would you let this affect your decision?

  • I didn't even know the Beckham's named their baby that, but I LOVE IT! I say go with it, super cute name!

I agree, and unfortunately to em that goes double for Harper Grace.

  • we considered Harper as a middle name, but because or Harper Lee and my love for To Kill a Mockingbird. I'm surprised that reason never came up

This. It is a really pretty name, but it's getting very popular.

  • I don't think that Harper Beckham will change Harper's trend at all. That is to say it's up 900 places in the last seven years, so it can't really trend up any faster. Harper was destined for the top 25 before the Beckhams named their daughter. If the trendiness didn't bother you before, it shouldn't bother you now.

Agreed.  I know 3 Harpers all under 3 years old.  One is a boy, his mom's maiden name was Harper.

  • I don't think it will impact popularity too much, if at all.  It's already popular and came out of nowhere a few years ago so it's been gaining at a pretty fast rate.

It was our girl name for Bean.  Since Bean's birth, I've had 2 friends have baby girls named Harper.

I can think of 3 celebrity Harpers off the top of my head.

We have since abandoned Harper as a girl's name.

  • I'm not a fan of Harper (especially for a girl) and this name was getting trendy. I think we're going to see a LOT of kids with this name for the next 10 years.

It would not affect my decision though. If you love the name, then give it to your child. Beckhams be damned.

  • I think it already is kind of popular.  It has shot up in popularity.  In 2004 it was #887 on the SSA list.  Last year it had jumped all the way to #119.  I only see it getting more popular in the future.  It might not get as popular as Ava, but if that bothers you I would definietly reconsider.
  • I know a few LO with this name-sorry

  • Its definitely rising in popularity even before their baby but I still love it.  I think Ava and Harper sound great together!
  • I think Harper is kind of nice for a girl.  However, I know at least 3 of them already including a little boy.  I think it's a very trendy name already.

  • I already thought it was getting too trendy. Now, it's going to skyrocket.

  • I know 2 Harpers born in the last 6 months.  I think it's too cutesy IMO.  It's find for a child, but I don't think it ages well.
  • It was on our list before we had DS almost 3 years ago and I'm glad we ended up having a boy and never used Harper.  Definitely too trendy/popular, whatever you want to call it.  I don't feel like it's a bad name, but I'm glad we dodged that bullet. I don't think the Beckhams will change that since they are really just a blip in pop culture, imo.

  • Harper has already been trendy and somewhat popular.  One of Neil Patrick Harris's twins is Harper Grace.

  • It's been on our list for 2 years...I had no idea that it was so popular until recently, which really bums me out!  It's still at the top of our list because dh and I can't decide on anything else.
