hi ladies-
i'm trying to stay low-risk during my pg so i can have an out of hospital birth and i know that it starts with a good diet. i'm looking to get close to 100gms of protein per day due to my high bp. i would like to make protein shakes as quick easy snakes, especially to take to work. anyone know of a good brand that tastes good and is low in sugar/carbs?
anyone else in general being really viligent about their diet?
Re: XP: protein shakes
I use Bluebonnet whey protein in either chocolate or vanilla. It has not artificial flavor, sweeteners, etc...I make a great smoothie every morning. You can also just mix it with milk or water for an extra boost. Here's my recipe:
5 oz Frozen berries
1/2 to 1 banana
3 large handfuls of spinach
1/2 cup pure cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail or blend, straight juice. I like R.W. Knudsen. I have UTI issues, and this helps. You could substitute water)
2 Tablespoons ground flaxseed (fiber and omegas)
1 scoop Bluebonnet whey
1/2 to 1 cup of water (sometimes I sub milk or yogurt if I need more calcium/calories for the day).
This is a power-packed breakfast that gets lots of awesome nutrients in!
I've used the GNC brand of 100% whey protein for years and it's pretty good (mix it with part milk to give it a little creaminess...)..
Otherwise, MHP is pretty good from what i've heard... There are a lot of good brands out there, but I'm also a drug tested athlete so the GNC is the one I stick pretty close to because their products we usually don't have to worry about. Talk to a bodybuilder or powerlifter if you know any in your area for what they recommend.
I use Body by Vi there is less then 1 gram of sugar and 7 carb in one shake. They are very filling and taste great. Check out the site and let me know if I can help at all. Good luck!!!
