What made you decide to switch to Gentlease or Similac Sensitive type formulas? How much gas is too much gas for a baby? My baby is farting A LOT and lets out huge burps when eating. She also has episodes of grunting and high pitched squeals. I asked my pediatrician and she said it was too early to decide if she needs a different formula (baby is 4 weeks tomorrow) but my baby looks uncomfortable.

We started with Similac Advance at the hospital and switched to Target's version when we got home. Within a week or so DS would grunt, pull his knees up really high to push, turn beet red from straining, and scream/cry when trying to poop... and then he would poop out little hard nuggets. We immediately switched back to Similac Advance. We did it cold turkey.
DS did better on the name brand, but his poop was still hard-ish. He wasn't straining anymore, but it just wasn't right. I waited about a week to see if he just needed some time and when there was no improvement I called the doctor. They said to go ahead and try the Similac Sensitive. I had a sample at home, so we switched cold turkey again.
Within the first feeding, he was much better. Within a full day of using the Sensitive, all issues were gone... as was his backed up poop.

We switched from Similac Advanced to the Sensitive because baby was spitting up a lot and only eating 12 or so ounces a day. Once we switched, he started eating normally and not spitting up. He still farts like a champ though and needs to be burped a lot. I'm thinking he may have reflux, but I'm hoping that's not the case. He might just be gassy like his daddy.
