So DD is 2 and still in her crib-has no issues with it whatsoever. She has never climbed out, etc. Our first dilemma is that we'll be moving around Oct/Nov so I wasnt sure if we should move her to a bed before or after the move. I sort of decided to keep her in the crib when we moved as long as she was still doing fine in it. BUT, now I"m not sure since #2 will be coming in Jan. Ideally, #2 would get DDs furniture and DD would get a new bedroom set-but that would mean she would need to be in a "big" bed before the baby comes....and I've read not to do too many big changes all at once. I asked her pediatrician and he said either move her to a bed around Aug or see if we could find a 2nd crib (cheap for now) to use until after the baby comes, then switch her. I have no idea what to do!! Any thoughts?? I love her being contained so the thought of her running free scares me, esp because some nights it really takes her forever to fall asleep.
Re: Bed Dilemma-ideas?
is the baby going to be using the crib right away? or will s/he be in your room in a bassinet/pack and play? That would give you a couple extra months.
I mentioned below, I think we plan on transitioning E around Christmas. My plan is to have Santa bring him new sheets/blankets for his bed.
If it were me, I'd use the move as a reason to give her a new big girl bed in her new room. Then she'll be used to it by the time the baby comes.
I would probably move her in to her new room with her new big girl bed. And put the crib (set up) in the room you will use for the baby. That way if it goes awful, you could just put her in the crib and scrap the whole idea until she is more ready for a new bed.
We are planning on leaving dd in the crib until it no longer works out. If she is ready by Jan-March, great. If not, the baby will be in the pnp anyway at first, and I would be ok with him being there until 6 months or so. I figure, kids aren't in cribs once they are 3 are they? She has to be ready by then! Or who knows, maybe we do end up buying another crib. I really have no idea!
Ideally baby will go in the crib right away-thats what we did with DD
We had to put T in a bed because she climbed out of her crib. That was a few weeks ago, and even though we can hear her wandering around sometimes before she falls asleep, she has always been in the bed when we've checked on her. We did and still do talk up the "big girl bed" so it's cool. Last week we traveled to MD to visit my parents and she slept in her "big girl bed at mimi's" with no problems whatsoever.
Two things though: she can't open door knobs yet, so she is still contained and also, we believe in CIO at this age, so sometimes she has huge fits in there about not going to bed.
If I were in your situation, as long as you move by the end of November, I would just do the bed transition then. I would think she'll be so distracted by Christmas and how awesome it is to have a big girl bed that I doubt she'll notice that the baby uses "her" crib
