HELP!

My husband just got a new job, which is GREAT for us. More money, and we get to move back to the city where both of our sets of parents live. However, we just found out today that for myself and the baby in my belly to be on his benefits plan will cost more than half his paycheck. Because I do at-home daycare, I don't have my own insurance plan.

Does anyone know of any health insurance plans that will cover maternity right off the bat, and cover the child when it is born in December? Please let me know!!!

Re: HELP!

  • I have never heard of insurance that will cover maternity after you are pregnant.  We have priviate insurance (not with our employers) and we had a 1 year waiting period before they would cover anything maternity related.  I hope you are able to find something soon!!

  • In Iowa we have "I-Care" It is a special plan through the U of Iowa, inexpensive and no waiting for pre-exsisting conditions. Perhaps they have a similar plan where you live? Check with local state hospitals and DHS (even though you may make too much to qualify for state assistance, they can give you info on what programs are avalible in your area)

  • what about something like Medicaid or Family Health Plus? Do you have those options where you live?

  • Where are you moving to? If it's still in state check out this website https://www.healthcare.gov/foryou/women/index.html?gclid=CKe7-r7w-akCFcnb4AodHAP9Yw

I don't have any experience with this personally but was able to find this site and you can compare the different insurances. hope it helps.

  • I have been shopping for private insurance and looking into getting on my husband's plan (I was on my mom's until we got married in May), and I have found that all of the insurance places I have looked into will still insure me regardless of being pregnant because pregnancy isn't a pre-existing condition; it's a temporary one. I would go to ehealthinsurance.com and see what you can find there.

  • I'm not sure about private insurance, but I just started with a new company, and pregnancy is NOT considered a pre-existing condition.  I was under the impression that it was illegal to deny coverage based on a pregnancy.  I'm no expert, though...  Good luck!  This is my first, so insurance stress is new for me - who knew how complicated it is!!
