Food Sensitivity Check In

This check in is for mamas who have had to restrict their diet due to food sensitivities in their LOs or themselves.

The theme this week continues meal planning. The series is breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks series. I skipped last week since I was tied up with holiday stuff, but  three weeks ago was breakfast. Last week was lunch. This week - dinner!
Any random tips, vents, etc. are also welcome.

C's dinners are usually really high in protein. One of his favorites is BBQ chicken and lentils, he can't get enough of it!

That gives me some ideas for protein.  We are avoiding dairy and he doesn't seem to like meat, but I bet he would give BBQ chicken a try.

I throw chicken breasts, lentils, BBQ sauce, and chicken stock in the crock pot and let it cook.  Couldn't be any easier!!  Lentils are also really high in protein, so are beans (especially kidney beans)

  • We meal plan Sunday through Thursday of each week and below is what is on tap this week (dairy/egg free, low on wheat). There is nothing too exciting planned during the week usually because we are so pressed for time. Meal planning is so important in terms of our diet restrictions because of not having the option to just go out to eat or pick up take-out.

Tonight - chicken, veggie, brown rice stir fry

Tuesday - Pan spaghetti sauce & zucchini (ground turkey and a jar of organic no salt marinara sauce from Trader Joes). We make DD quinoa pasta shells.

Wenesday -  A crock pot pork roast with veggies and herb dairy free dumplings using bisquick and a milk alternative. I'm kicking myself because I cannot find the recipe online to link but I think I have posted it in the check in before. It is kind of a hot dish for summertime but we eat outside most nights this time of year.

Thursday - Left overs from Wednesday.

Friday - DH grills veggies and his choice of protein that he picks up on the way home. I'm hoping it is fish this week.

We did take DD to our favorite local vegan restaurant this weekend that we go to about once every two months or so. Typically we get her the vegan Quinoa Mac & "cheese" w/ broccoli dish but this time, as a treat, we ordered her the pizza and she thought it was SO cool that it had "fake moo moos".  She was thrilled. We love going to this place because she can eat anything on the menu.

  • We have been grilling out a lot recently.  I love making chicken Kababs marinated in homemade Italian dressing.  Tonight we're having Italian chicken, corn on the cob and fresh green beans.  I love grilling because then supper is super easy!

On another note, yesterday I gave into temptation and had a lick of DH's real ice cream.  I should not have done that!  I was dreaming about eating ooey gooey desserts and everything that is currently not allowed for me to eat.  I want a slice of pizza so bad!  Here's hoping she outgrows here allergies at 9 months!

  • mmm... dinner..

We have been doing a lot of stir fry - fresh veggies and kale (we have a lot of kale in the garden right now) with either brown rice or noodles. yum. I bought some sauces at trader joe's and we just add a bit for flavor.

Other than that, for a quickie we have been doing rotisserie chicken and whatever. grilled corn is great.

and as a standby pasta and red sauce with broccoli.   Except trader joes marinara - the one i bought has cheese in it!!! :( booo....

I tried another challenge and it was a big fail. :( I have been getting away with a slice of pizza with a little cheese on it, so I went full out and had "real" pizza for dinner. did not work out so well. So I guess LO has not grown out of it at one year. :( at least it's just dairy!

Have you tried the no salt one I mentioned above? It is as basic as it gets and is so nice to have on hand when we need something quick. I think it is pretty tasty. I beleive the label is bright yellow w/ big red letters...I think..

Thanks - I'll have to pick it up the next time I go to the city. We have Giant Eagle here and they have a "market district" brand that is organic, cheap, and just tomatoes and spices. So I usually get that. But I love Trader Joe's!
