Pedi Allergist appt is finally tomorrow morning - nervous!

So 6 weeks after getting a referral after DD broke out into hives where some cheese touched her face (and greek yogurt a couple weeks prior to that) we are finally going to see the Pedi Allergist tomorrow morning and I am so nervous!

Can anyone share your experiences with me and ease my mind just a little?  DH is coming with me for at least the first hour or two.  I was told to expect the appt to last 2-2.5 hours.  Do you think they will do a scratch test and a blood test?  Did you get the results that day or did you have to come back for a f/u?

Also the appt is an hour away at 7:40 in the morning.  I will BF DD before we leave, but do you think they will let me feed her some solids while we are there?

  • We got the results at the same visit.  Good luck!  Our tests contridicted eachother, so for us it was sort of a bummer.  We did the blood test, RAST test and tested using the actual food.  It was long but Keira did rather well.  Try to put something easy to get on and off your girl.  It is a lot of waiting and because your LO is so small they might not test for everything.  You have to wait something like 20 minutes once they do the scratch test and you both can not touch her back.

  • every doctor is different.. most do the skin test first and if that comes out positive then they do a RAST test.  We were sent to do the RAST test so it's possible they will not do it there but send you elsewhere..

bring toys.. maybe a portable dvd player if you can.

i was able to give my son milk, but not food.. only b/c they don't allow food in the office (i did sneak in some cucumber bits for him).  I think it depends on what type of solids b/c this is an allergy office - so i'm sure they are cautious of food. Maybe out in the hall.

    good luck!!!!
