Our good friends just had their first baby, and my DH and I are bringing over dinner tonight. Any suggestions for what to bring? I'd rather stay away from spicy/gassy for mama and baby's sake. Thanks in advance!

Re: A Meal to bring new parents?
This is what I was going to say. I don't know your cooking ability, but my mom brought over some homemade chicken broth with cheese tortellini in it when I had DD - it was great! Filling because of the tortellini (you can get store bought stuff), easy on the stomach (which I needed), healthy, and no need for a knife and fork...anything easy to eat with one hand while feeding baby is a bonus!
Someone also brought me over a fruit tray which I loved. So easy to snack on junk when you're tired and only have one hand. It was great having some berries and cut up melon and pineapple to snack on.

Potpie, you can make a large one for tonight and individual ones for the freezer. Or Soup and Salad and Bread (or bread bowls). Subs. Lasagna or white lasagna. Rotisserie Chicken and potatoes. Chicken and dumplings. Can you tell I like to cook..and eat!!
Chicken pot pie or Shepherd's Pie!
That's funny about the spicy food. After my DD I was craving thai food like crazy so I had my BIL bring over thai food (the spicy stuff) YUM! My DD never had any problems with the food I ate though.
Some ideas:
Minestrone soup
Butternut squash soup
Pesto pasta (to stay away from tomato and other acidic ingredients)
Quiche
Mac and cheese (the homemade stuff not the stuff from the box)
BLT (assemble the sandwich at home and put in the oven when you get there to toast it for them)
Enchiladas
Chicken Pot Pie
Lasagna with fresh bread
Freshly sliced fruit (melon or other fruit that can be sliced ahead of time)
Simple roasted chicken with twice baked potatoes and salad (can buy one in a bag from store)
You can also bring marinated meat in bags for them to freeze for a later date.
i always make new parents tacos.. and just bring of all the fixings! then they can make them exactly how they like them. and i usually bring microwave rice, in case they want to cook that for 5 mins and have fresh rice with it.
i think anything will be great, i know i wont be complaining when i get dinner brought over!!
All of this made me very hungry and I just ate lunch:) It also helped me decide on dinner
