Seizures

Its been a long journey, and several months since I have been here.  Many of you probably don't know me / remember me, so I won't bother with updates.

It would appear my youngest is (this was a speculation from birth) having seizures, but we haven't been able to catch them on an EEG.  They are petite mal seizures, and she also has a noticible tremor.

Anyone with a similar experience?

Re: Seizures

  • My son is 14 months old and is having symptoms of petit mal (absence) seizures.  IN hindsight, he may have ben haviung symptoms all the way back to 3 weeks old when he would go limp and stare and look like he was not breathing (pediatrician ignored me and said he was gagging or having severe reflux)  He had a 48 hr eeg last week and it was totally normal!  He did not do what he normally does at home.  We are going to have an mri done to rule out any brain abnormalities.  I am frustrated because he is def. doing something wierd...stares blankly at nothing for 20 seconds (more or less) and is unresponsive to touching him or yelling at him. and then just goes back to what he was doing.  What is your LO doing when you think it is a petit mal?  What is your doctor saying since they havent found anythign on the eeg.  My doctor is saying that he is not having seizures but I find that hard to believe.  I guess we have to wait for the MRI and see.  I am sorry you have to deal with this...it is so upsetting and even more frustrating to not have answers...Good luck!

  • We had a 48 hour EEG done as well.  She is being seen by a neurologist, however, we are also getting a second opinion.

Her seizures include going stiff, a blank stare, and then raising her arms up and inward.  My aunt and uncle who are doctors witnessed one.  They agreed it was a seizure.  We just want treatment and answers.  We have another EEG scheduled for this Thursday.

  • My 2.5 yr old DD' first seizures started out just like that. She has had three types total since she was 18 months. We had 4 EEGs and they all came back normal. Her MRI finally gave us some answers.

Push for the MRI and PET scans, They will show so much more than EEGS. If you are quick enough also record her episodes. I hope you get answers for her! Good luck.
