Baby shower gift?

I have a baby shower this weekend for my neighbor's daughter (. I'm having a hard time figuring out what to get her!  She's not registered anywhere, nor do I have a lot of money to spend. ($20 is my budget).  What's a good, practical gift (besides diapers, etc) that you would enjoy getting for your baby boy?

ETA:: You'd think I've never had a baby! Its amazing what you forget....

Re: Baby shower gift?

  • Hooded towel and washcloths, boppy cover, zip up sleepers, diaper caddy, a couple of nice bottles and burp cloths, onesies and socks.  You could do a combo of any of these.  That's all I could think of in that budget, some more things may pop in my head!

  • A stack of newborn white onesies and a container of Oxyclean.  A lot of shower gifts are cute outfits that newborns never wear.  They live in onesies and go through them like kleenex the first few weeks.  I kept about 8 onesies on the changing table downstairs with Liam and kept Oxyclean and a soaking tub on the sink.
  • I know what you mean and I just had my baby 13 months ago! Two of my closest friends are pregnant and I was thinking about what they would need and couldn't hardly think of anything other than diapers and clothes. Then I thought some more...maybe do a basket and put things like bibs, burp rags, Shout, baby wash, lotion, powders, swaddle blankets, wipe case, bath towels, wash clothes, belly bath cover, onesies, socks. I racked up on blankets, diapers, and clothes at my showers. I always stick to buying things you really need, but nobody seems to buy, like the little things.

  • i loved it when people got me baby medicine (mylicon, teething tablets, pain/fever meds) - it helped a lot when something popped up in the middle of the night and i didn't have to run to the drug store. plus the target generics are a great price, and cvs usually has some great deals too. do some of those, a saline spray, boogie wipes, and make it a themed gift...

For $20 I would get a pack of baby wash cloths and a large size of the Method baby body wash.

  • I like to give some of my favorite little things.  Boogie wipes, Mylcon, Tylenol, Huggies wipes, Pampers Swaddlers, the disposable wash clothes with soap already on them, etc.  And don't forget a little note saying here are a few of my favorite baby items.

  • My go to gifts are Happiest Baby on the Block DVD or the FP Seahorse.  Sometimes I will also add a Swaddle Me to one of these gifts.

    This is a great idea!

  • I would buy a couple of gowns.  My boys slept in those at night their first couple of months.  It made diaper changing so easy and it's great to have an easy diaper change when you are so tired.

  • The A&A swaddle blankets are great.  I think the Target ones are about $20.  I like the idea of a favorites basket or a medicine basket too.
  • What about some onesies with the stickers to indicate how old they are each month.  You can find so many different kinds on Etsy... of course there is always the "original" Pinky Sticky.

I'm a huge fan of books.  You can never have too many and she'll be able to use them for years.  Heck, one of DDs' favorites at the moment was one from our shower--an Elmo Look and Find one.

  • I wouldn't buy any sort of cleaners but that is only because I know I am picky about what I use so I wouldn't assume everyone uses what I do. I would buy Sophie the Giraffe.

  • I like to get my preg friends Baby 411.  I love that book and used it so much.  I also think it is a great read when you're pregnant.

  • If she isn't registered....

I would get her a SwaddleMe blanket.  I found those to be the most helpful in the first several months, and they are like $15.  Maybe that plus a cute board book or teether?

    (side note: who doesn't register?!)
