TTC after 35

i know i am supposed to post on secondary If but i don't feel comfortable there

I am 39 and have been posting here for so long. it seems like the girls there are all younger, and i tried not to post here with certain things because i didn't want to upset anyone since i have a DD but i don't know where to go, this is the only place i feel like i fit.

so i hope it's ok if stay here, let me know if it's not. so to update, i have done the 3day, BF has done SA and had HSG yesteray, all came back normal, i now have to a day 21 but then what?? i feel like i am headed down the path of  the unexplained, it's just confusing since i have one child already. maybe it's age, maybe this is what is meant to be. i guess i can start to think in terms of being happy with one, it's just hard. I don't know if you will understand but #1 was not planned it just happened, i wasn't in the right head space during that whole pregnancy ( had a family tragedy i was going through)  and now that i am trying for # 2 i really do feel what you girls are going through, even though i have DD it's still heartbreaking taking a pregnancy test and it being neg. just feeling down today.

  • Of course you can post here.

Can I suggest that you put some info in a siggy so others can give advice? I saw your post on TTTC a few days ago where you were complaining about how long it was taking for #2 and you had been trying since Nov 2010 (and the post did not go over very well for reasons I don't have to tell you). It can take a very long while unfortunately. You were lucky the first time.  I would think you would try some IUI's if your test results were ok.  When will you see the RE?

Sorry you are having a down day.

  • I'm sorry to jump in on this....but I'm confused.  I always thought this board was for anyone 35 & up trying to conceive.  You mentioned that you "didnt want to upset anyone because you already have a DD".  Yikes - - I have a DD and post here.  IS this not the right board?  I've been hanging here quite a bit and it certainly does seem more like an infertility board, but I just want to make sure i'm welcome here too!

I have a DD and we just started trying naturally for #2.

Thanks and my apologies if i've been in the wrong place.

  • Also, I'm sorry you're having a bad day.  I didnt mean to ignore your feelings in my last post.  I was so concerned with making sure this is the right board.

Yes, TTC >35 is for anyone trying to conceive over 35. It just so happens that a bunch of us (the old timers) are still here trying to have #1 through major treatments so you just want to be aware of that.  It can be hurtful to some of us should you complain about not getting PG in 2 months when we've been trying for the first one for years. Does that make sense? Even though no one is purposely being hurtful, it still stings and we want this to be safe place for everyone since the rest of world is often unkind with comments.

Everyone has a different background and all are welcome. Just be aware of your audience and try to be considerate of all of our different journeys.  Since we are all old ladies, we should be able to do that and just get along (other boards can be drama filled and we like it to be warm/fuzzy over here!)

  • Thank you.

Yeah, I'm an old lady.  Stick out tongue I get it.  I just wanted to ensure that I was on the right board.

I'm certainly sensitive to everyone's struggles, for sure.  My prayers are for everyone here.  May we all get BFPs and have healthy babies!

  • i have updated my signature, and hope it's ok. I am trying to be aware of everyone on here so that's why i am making sure it's ok to post if it offends too many people i won't post and just read, but at 39 this is the only place i feel like i fit. i don't want to deal with all the crap and drama on the other boards with the 20 yr olds.

a little interesting thing happened today, i had to go to an ENT for severe nasal issues and he is putting me on a bunch of things one of them being predisone, i told him i was TTC and he said that might actually help! anyone heard of this?

I don't know anything about predisone but wanted to comment on your siggy. When you say CD21 bloodwork, that is a generic time for checking progesterone(p4). They are looking to see what your p4 is to make sure you acutally ovulated. If the number is really low, you didn't O.    They say Cd21 because that is "assuming" you O on Cd14. Lots of women do not O on Cd14.  Are you charting your temp? that is the best way to see if/when you are O'ing as you want p4 checkd 7 days post O (7DPO).  For example, I O early-- usually CD11 or 12. My p4 would be checked on CD18. Anyway, it's best to chart so you can focus sex around your O time. It gets exhausting trying to figure it out otherwise! Hope this helps.

  • I also assumed the board was for everyone over 35 yo. I think the skewing towards infertility talk is because people who get pregnant easily move on and the board (or really any TTC board) is left with everyone else.

Plenty of my friends 35-39 have gotten pregnant within a month or two of trying. It's not unusual at all. Seems like about 1 in 3 of us are having problems.

  • I just wanted to say Hi!  I am 37 and I have a DD who was born 2 years ago.  I conceived her really without trying - so this is my first spin at having problems.

I have been trying since June 2010 and I have had 3 pregnancies, 3 losses, tons of tests, and complications after two losses (both times I bled for extended periods of time - the last one was 6 weeks prior to a D&C).

I have unexplained (I guess) but it is an egg quality issue. I'm old and my eggs just aren't as bright and sunny as they used to be.

Coming to terms with my DD being my only child was difficult - but I am so grateful that I do have her and I think it makes this journey a little easier for me. I wish you the best of luck as you move forward - hopefully there is a BFP around the corner!
