Feeling left out. (petty rant)

Ever since Edmund was born I really haven't gotten to do to much outside of the house. I went to my nieces 9th birthday party, shopping once and to the NKOTBSB concert. H on the other hand has gone to several movies and just out with the guys on numerous occasions.

He and a couple of our friends are planning on going to a beer fest here in a couple weeks and didn't invite me. I know I need to speak up and let him know that I would like to be able to go with them occasionally.

We have a sitter that I trust and that does excellent with Edmund but I just don't feel good asking her to watch him so that I can go to a beer fest. Maybe I should just schedule something with my friends that I can bring him with me and that way I can get out of the house too.

  • I don't see anything wrong with you wanting to go to a beer fest.  If you need time away, you shouldn't think about if it's an appropriate activity for a new mom (unless you're going to smoke crack or something, that would be a negative thing).  I'm finding the adjustment difficult as well,  You definitely shouldn't feel bad about leaving him with a sitter since it's one you trust.  But bringing him with you to something would be fun, too - I found when I went home to visit family, everyone wanted to hold and cuddle him so even though he was with me, I got a break from being a mom.  Don't be too hard on yourself :)

Speak up get the sitter and go have some fun.  Also speak to your DH about him staying home with Edmund while you go out with your friends.  Moms needs time away from LOs too.

  • I feel your pain.  DH has been golfing 15 times since DS was born (he is 11 weeks today).  He has been out with friends numerous times.  He has gone to the beach with DD (which at least he took her with him).  He is going on a golf vacation in two weeks for four days and I have been no where (unless you count trips to target and the grocery store with DD and DS).  When I shared my fustration he just looked at me like I was crazy and said well you are BFing you can't go anywhere!!  I guess it will be a few more months before I get a break!

I would knock out my DH's front teeth if he said that to me.

I agree with all of this - you deserve to have fun, too.

I'm going to a beerfest this weekend with DH, but we are leavign DS with MIL overnight.  I am having a LOT of anxiety about leaving him to go to drink beer!  I feel like a horrible mom!  I might back out and not go, I'm going to see how I feel on Friday.
