My little guy hates being in the car seat. He doesn't cry much else, except in the car. My guess is that he wants to be held... he spends most of his days in constant contact with someone- we wear him or let him sit on our laps, and at night he sleep right next to me. But obviously in the car we can't pick him up. I really don't believe you can spoil a baby, but am I contributing to this problem by always holding or wearing him?
I'll pull over and nurse, check his diaper, make sure the AC isn't too high for him... but he still ends up crying.
I'm about to get in the car for a two hour drive to go to a baseball game with my parents and while I am looking forward to seeing them I am dreading the ride.
Any thoughts? I hate hearing him cry and not being able to do anything about it.
Re: Car seat help?
Aww, we've been there too. DS used to cry constantly in the car until he was about 7 months old, especially on longer trips. It was really hard, but some things did help a little bit. I would sing to him, The Wheels on the Bus was his favorite and stopped him almost instantly. I also made sure he was nursed and changed before we left anywhere, because to me stopping often to check those things was harder on everyone because it just made the trip longer. I also bought a kids CD for him that seemed to help a little bit.
Hang in there, I promise it will get better with time. I know it's hard though! Oh and are you going to a Red Sox game? I'm so jealous! Have fun!
My LO hates the car, it is so hard to go anywhere that is longer than an hour away. Now that he's bigger I have figured out how to nurse him while he's still in his seat. I look ridiculous, and the other people in the car think I'm nuts...but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. If we stop to nurse and he falls asleep he wakes up when we put him in his seat. So if I can nurse him to sleep in his seat there's not that transition, KWIM?
We also always time trips around nap time. That seems to really help.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We just got home. I had some success pumping in the car and giving him a bottle to help him fall asleep, so while there were some tears it thankfully wasn't the whole ride
We were at the Red Sox's minor league team game- The PawSox. We had a blast and they won! Yay.
