AW: Finally able to run!

I'm 5.5 PP and for the first time since giving birth, I went running today! I can't even describe how awesome it felt. As an avid runner (7 marathons, baby!), I stayed active through my entire pregnancy, including running 2 days before going into labor. I have been healing verrrrry slowly after a 3rd degree tear and I've been really down about not being able to work out, but tonight I felt good enough to attempt running. I ran to the end of my street and back and sadly, my legs are a bit sore! I guess that's what taking almost 6 weeks off will do to you!  Stick out tongue

  • Yes Yay! I started running last Friday and ran this morning. I'm 3 weeks PP and it felt GREAT. Good for you for keeping it up during your pregnancy. I ran up to 3 days before delivering and I believe it's what helped me through labor and delivery (and healing).

  • I ran today for the first time too!  I will be 4 weeks pp tomorrow.  I wans't able to run though my pregnancy (I walked a LOT though!) so it felt so good to be back at it.  Can't wait to get back to racing in a few months!  Happy running ladies!!
  • I'm jealous!  I'm a marathoner, too, but i stopped running when I found out I was pregnant. I was totally paranoid I would hurt the pregnancy (i know, I know, totally irrational).   I am doing the stepmill right now to strengthen my legs and then I plan on easing into running in the next few weeks.  I want to run a 1/2 marathon in the spring so hopefully I'll be ready.

  • I am so happy to hear that someone else with a 3rd degree tear is running. I am 4 weeks PP and I am itching to get on the trails again. Did you wait for a doctor to give you the okay? I have my 6 week apt on the 25th and I am so nervous/scared that my doctor will say I have not healed enough. I plan on doing the Phila marathon this fall.  What was your healing like? I do not have pain, but just some itching at nighttime.
