are hitting/jealousy the worst at age 2?

I was wondering about hitting and jealousy issues.  I know that all children are different, but is the hitting and jealousy stage generally highest at age 2?  I will deal with these issues when the occur, but am hoping to minimize them if possible (would a 3 year old typically not display as much hitting/aggressive behavior/or jealousy towards the newborn)?

    I am sure that it depends on the child, but for us, I think it had to do with when DD became mobile (at 6 months) and was into everything.  Then DS could no longer stand her near him, his stuff, etc.  He happened to be just 2, but he is the same way about it now at 2.5+.

    2 of my friends have 3 year age gaps and had huge issues with jealousy with their oldest.

    It's hit or miss no matter what the age gap. From what I remember reading anything under 18 months they can't "truly" be jealous, but any older than that and they can. It might not necessarily happen though.
