second time moms...clothes sizes

How accurate are the sizes I know it kinda depends on the store and brand. However I was sorting through the clothes today and some of the 3 month those are as small as the NB clothes. So whats your opinion on:

Carters

Target

Childrens Place

Gymboree

Oldnavy

TIA for all the help.

Re: second time moms...clothes sizes

  • Carters about right on

    Target ran small for us

Children's place about right on, but sleepers were a bit small for size

    Gymboree right on

Oldnavy for us, everything there ran pretty short. Especially onepiece outfits. We do love Old Navy's fleece lined jeans for winter time.

  • There are three or more lines of Carters. The actual store brand Carters is what I meant by true to size, Just one Year, Just One You, ect by carters seem to run a little smaller. They are sold at Target/Walmart.

I think Carters, Target, & Childrens Place run true to size.  I find Gymboree runs a tad big.  Old Navy runs a tad small.

You didn't ask about these brands, but I will put my 2 cents in.  Gerber runs really small. BRU brand runs a little small too. Gap runs true to size too.

I tend to look at the height and weight if they list it on the tag.  Not just the size.  It also depends on the clothing piece.  DD wears 2T in almost everything, but I have been getting 3T in t-shirts, because they tend to shrink easier.

  • I agree with PP on sizing by store. My only comment is on the Gymboree clothing it seems to run big...especially in terms of width. My DS was lean and Gymboree clothes always seemed to fit him funny because of this.

  • I agree with everything except that gymboree does run big!  My DD will be 3 in october and can still wear 18-24 months in gymboree clothes but she has some 2t that fit her fine too like dresses but pants and shorts are 18-24 months for her but i do have a petite little one.

I agree with all of this. And Gerber is the worst of all. I find that Gymboree runs REALLY large. 3Ts from Target and TCP are starting to get small for my DS, but his Gymboree 3T shorts fall off when he runs. If you buy second hand, definitely size up as clothes shrink over time.
  • Carters definitely runs small, especially in their sleepers/fitted pajamas.  Old Navy is right on and some of Gymboree's shirts run small.

Janie and Jack is an affiliate of Gymboree, so I'd assume they run big also.

I find babygap, target, and carters to run true to size in most things, gymboree runs wide but the length is true to size, and old navy runs pretty small (or maybe their stuff just shrinks)

  • Carter's were about right

Target ran about right from what I remember for infants, but when she was 12-24 months most of her stuff was Circo, and some of the shirts were kinda short. Once she hit 2t though it's fine.

I didn't buy her a lot of Old Navy until she was in 18 month and 2t, and they've worked well. The 2t fits well but 24 month is short and wide on her.

  • when i was pregnant with my daughter (she was born in july of 09) I bought her a WHOLE wardrobe of 0-3 months from old navy and baby gap (they were running a huge sale and the clothes were ADORABLE) okay well none of them even fit her until she was3/4 months old and it was winter so i ended up giving them all away to my sister in law- most of them with the majority of the tags still on-

carters newborn was the ONLY clothing line small enough for her for those first 3 months- i feel like everything else she was swimming in! (target, childrens place, gymboree, oldnavy, baby gap, etc) (she was 7lbs 1 oz)

now that she is older (2t-3t) i will say that old navy/baby gap seem to run small, target has many different brands but circo runs a little big, and carters still is spot on with sizing.

  • Honestly, I think it depends on the kid.  My son fit right into all Carters clothes but the pants were always a little big...so when we were in 2T shirts, he was still in 18 month shorts/pants, we are in 4T shirts right now and 3T shorts (and sometimes 2T).  I found that Old Navy was running just a bit smaller but they shrunk almost immediatly...Childrens Place was the same as Carters from what I could tell but the clothes were a bit more expensive and not as "play/active" as we liked so I didn't use them much.

As far as Target goes, the sizes were about just a bit smaller than Carters for us...but you can't beat the prices for play clothes and they seemed to hold up a bit longer than Old Navy for us.

  • Advice: Find a brand that fits your child, and stick with it.  I didn't really go to gymboree just because they always fit my son funny.  For example, when I was buying onsies for my son, I found that Gerber made theirs a bit on the long and skinny side whereas the Carter's onsies were always a bit shorter and wider.  My son was the tall and skinny kind so when he was little, Gerber onsies fit him perfectly.
