I know im about 3 months late getting this ball rolling but how do i go about writing a will? do i need to see a certain type of attorney? when i search for info. online, i get a bit overwhelmed.
My BIL practices criminal law, but he drew ours up for us. He laid out the areas that we needed to have people in mind for - guardian, executive of the estate, etc.
Our financial adviser suggested someone, but we also had someone from the church who is an attorney and offered to do it pro bono. He told us that a basic will is actually quite simple and his firm has a few forms that we fill out and then he'll sit with us once to go over everything and then draw it up - very simple.
If you don't know anyone or can't get a recommendation, I'd probably just check the old fashioned yellow pages. There are pages and pages of attorney ads in ours and many of the ads mention that they do wills.
Any attorney can write a will. We are about 4 years late but my brother takes the bar exam at the end of the month and he has already said as soon as he can he wants to get one done for us. He will be doing real estate and municipal law.
