beach FAIL

We are supposed to go to Callaway Gardens (there is a small beach there) next weekend w/my family.  I talked to LilyBug's pedi & she told me not to use sunscreen/sunblock on her until she is 6mos.  She also told me to only sit out on the beach for 30min intervals & then take her inside somewhere for awhile to avoid sunburn.  I have a bathing suit for her w/SPF, a sun hat & we also have a huge umbrella to sit on.  I've started using all natural products on her from a health store here & was thinking about checking to see what they have as far a sunscreens/sunblock since it's all natural.  I did get the ok to give her a little cold water/breastmilk 1oz at a time to help keep her cool.  For anyone that has already taken LO to the beach, how did you handle everything?

  • i take LO to the beach every other week, her doc said i can use sunscreen on her but to test it out on her foot first and if she doesnt react that she will be fine, and she never reacted. we bring her car seat and we sit her in it under an umbrella but recently purchased a sunshade for her to sit under instead. she does wonderful! she sleeps most of the time too. we have a sun hat for her too. but i did find that when we take her i constantly worry about her and i am unable to enjoy myself so we have a family friend that will be watching her for now on.

Thanks!  I did see these little tents that the babies can sit in that is supposed to protect them from the sun.  I think I might get one of those two.  There are 3 babies under 2, so they can all use it.

We've gone to the beach a handful of times. We use sunblock on him and have a tent for him to lay in the shade. I agree with pp - it's hard to relax with a baby at the beach, though.

  • even though LO is sleeping most of time i just cant relax cause im constantly worrying about her and checking on her, we live in italy and the beaches here are to die for and i dont get a chance to go into the water cause i dont wanna leave her. i think leaving her with a baby sitter will be more comfortable for her and she wont have to be outside all day..

  • We live about 10 minutes from the beach and haven't gone yet.  Usually we go 3 or 4 times a week but I just can't bring myself to try it.  Protecting DS from the sun while chasing DD (who wants to spend every minute in the water) just doesn't seem appealing.

California Baby makes a all natural sunblock.  We haven't used it but they sell it at our target.
