Upstate NY Babies

Natalie's "1 month" appt.

Yeah, she's really only 3.5 weeks, she'll be a month on Wednesday.. but close enough. :)

We had a pretty good appointment! I really like the new Dr. office.. It was a good decision to switch.
She is 8lbs8oz.. so she gained exactly 21oz in 21 days.. right on her growth curve around the 40th percentile.. She's 21.5" and has a big head at 14.5"

Got a script for Zantac for reflux (my mom was with me and thought they were giving her xanax..haha). I was amazed at how they just gave me the script because with Eve i basically BEGGED 3 different drs (At 2 practices) for meds for her and got shut down.. but the dr actually saw some of her reflux "behavior".. so that was good.. Not sure I can fill it though because the dr office said that N hasn't been added to the insurance yet even though we submitted the forms weeks ago... But maybe we'll sometimes get to see a happy Natalie.. maybe..

I have actually been pretty concerned about N's neck and have suspected her to have some degree of torticollis.. you can kind of see it in my siggy pic.. her head is always to the left.. she actually has a really red fold of skin on the left side of her neck from it being flopped to the left so much.. when I try to put her head to the right, it feels tight and I can't really do it.. The Dr could see what I was talking about, but she said she was not concerned yet.. she moved her head around and said she had a full range of motion, but it is something to keep an eye on because it could still get worse. I am not completely reassured by this... but maybe I'm just a worrier..

Re: Natalie's "1 month" appt.

  • Great!! Has her latch improved and is bfing going well?? Seems like it from her weight :)

Maybe check with MrsWhite and the other girls with LOs that have had some neck issues on what they have done...maybe you could just try little things here and there to "treat" it yourself. (I just mean propping with towels...you know - the simple stuff)

So glad you had a good appointment.   It helps to have responsive docs.  I only like 1 of the drs I've seen at our practice.

And I hear you on insurance.  I can't add E to our insurance until we get his birth certificate and SSN.  Seems so weird to me because that could delay it passed the month he's still under mine but that's what our HR dept. made clear.  Thus, I paid for his perscription right out.  Sucks.

  • Great gain!

I can see what you're talking about in the siggy pic but it doesn't look so bad. I brought up B's "tilt" at his 1 mth appt and they assured me he was fine and just had a normal flat spot. The biggest problem I noticed (which I don't see in pics of N) was the asymmetry in his facial features. His tilt was so bad his face was actually drooping to one side.  He has full range of motion too, but then it snaps back like a rubber band. At such a young age, it can usually be fixed by stretching and positioning- try to turn her head in the "she's can't" direction while she nurses or naps.

  • I'm glad she is growing so well! Call your insurance and see if when she is on there if it will show her as being active from her date of birth.  Because if that is the case, just keep the receipts from the pharmacy and you can submit.  Also, there is a generic, so it shouldn't be toooo bad, but I don't know off-hand. You could call and ask what the cash price is without even going in.

We also propped dd on her "good" side to try to help the flat spot on the bad side.  But she did not have range of motion though until we went to the chiro.  I think it is good you noticed so early and maybe just being concious of it will help to keep it from getting worse.

  • i'm glad you like the dr.  I hope the zantac works for you.  I feel like it's not very expensive.  sophia wasn't on my insurance so the pharmacy just filled it under my name. i'm not sure if that is normal or b/c i am an employee

Like the RX had Sophia's name written on it but they filled it under your name to use the insurance?  haha  No that is illegal and fraudulant.

I've been wondering the same thing! How are things going in the BF department? Was Polly able to help at all?

Glad to hear you like the new Dr. and that they were able to give you something to help her reflux. And Yeah for a good checkup overall!

Yeah, we saw Polly briefly that day and she showed me some things to help with her latch.. I still don't know that its perfect because at times I do get sore, but I am certainly not cracked and sore like I was.. and she seems to be gaining weight.. so things are going pretty well..

She took her first bottle today like a champ which was really bittersweet.. Eve had bottles for supplementing from the beginning but Natalie had never had one so i was a little sad to give it her for the first time. :(
