I am a FTM lurking from 3rd tri with a question for you ladies. How long did your LO one wear newborn size clothing?? And how big were they when they were born?? Did you have to change them often?? I am just trying to get an idea of how much stuff I will need in this size. Thanks!
Re: How long did you LO wear NB size clothing??
My LO was born at 7.5 lbs and wore NB size until he was 6 weeks old. I was constantly told he was going to be HUGE so I had three sleepers and one pack of onies "in case" he was smaller. Needless to say, I ended up buying more.
LO usually wore two onies and one sleeper per day due to spit up/poo leaks, etc
DD was a preemie but still weighed a decent amount - 6# 7oz. She wore NB stuff for about 6 weeks. It does depend on the brand, though. I found that Carter's stuff runs a lot smaller. She wore a NB Carter's onesie/dress/cardigan home from the hospital, and never fit into it again. Other brands run a little larger, but I found that mostly all the NB stuff (regardless of brand) got too short on DD and that's why she couldn't wear it again.
I wouldn't stock up on too many NB clothes, but then again, it's hard to say because I had DD early and ended up needing more NB clothes than I originally thought! Good luck, it's pretty much a crap shoot!

My LO was exactly 6lbs when she was born. She is currently still in nb, but maybe only for a few another week or two. She lives in onesies during the day (she wore a few outfits when we went out). You may have to change your LO once a day maybe two.

LO came out at 6lb 13 oz, dropped to 6lb6oz when we left the hospital. He wore NB for 3 weeks (10 onesies would have been enough).
He was in 0-3 for 6 weeks (exponential growth here!) and we had SO many outfits he never got to wear. At 9.5 weeks, he's now in 3-6 and it's baggy on him. Also now in size 2 diapers at 13lbs even.

DD was 6lbs 4oz at birth (She was born at 37 weeks). I didn't have any NB outfits b/c everyone kept saying they would be too small and she would wear them for a week. I had to send DH to Target the day after she was born since all her clothes were too big. She'll be 8 weeks on Sunday and is finally starting to fit into some of her 0-3's.
I would probably have about 10 NB onesies on hand so you don't have to be doing laundry every day.
My LO was 5lb 3oz at birth. I moved her up to 0-3 Gerber around the end of June. I ended up having to buy additional onesies and sleepers in NB size and 0-3 size.
If I were you, I would start with two weeks worth of both onesies and sleepers (12-14 of each) and then if you feel you need more after a while, you can always run to the store and grab a pack or two as needed. When I notice that I only have about 3 or 4 left to put on her, I'm reminded it's time for laundry.
DD usually wears 2, either sleepers or onesies, a day - depending on the temp. in the house. I probably change her every 12 hours. I personally have never had a bad spit up yet but I did have two blowouts approximately right before I switched her from NB diapers to 0-3 diapers around 2months old.
DS was 8lbs 14.5oz at birth. He wore NB for 2-3 weeks but they were tight. He's now in 3 month clothes at 8 weeks and some of those are tight, but he's 14 lbs and that's the 95%ile.
I would not get much newborn clothes. You can always buy more once LO is here.

DD was 8.10 and wore NB for 5 weeks.
DS was 9.5 and wore NB for about 3 weeks.
DS was 9lb 10oz, 21" and never fit in NB and was out of 0-3 in about 4 weeks
DD was 8lb 8oz, 19.5" and fit in NB for like a week (Carter's only), but it was tight. She was out of most 0-3 at about 6 weeks

DS was 8lb 7 oz, 21 inches long, and he never wore a single NB onesie or diaper. We only received one size NB outfit, and he was able to wear the pants and little zip up hoodie that came with it, but not the onesie.
He probably went through 2 or 3 outfits a day, plus a sleep sack.
He's 8 weeks old now and wearing mostly size 6 mos things due to length.

DS was 8lbs., 19 3/4" and wore nb sized for about a month.
DD was 7lb 6oz, 20", and wore nb for about 6 weeks. DH put a nb sleeper on her last night, and it still fit, but was def. snug.
both had decent amount of nb clothes. DS was born in december, so we did outfits and onesies everyday, and then sleepers at night. DD mainly wears outfits, and sleepers at night, no onesies b/c of the high temps.
My DS will be 6 weeks on Monday and he is still in NB clothing. He was only 5lb, 11oz at birth, though. He is currently about 8.5lbs and 21" long. The clothes still fit and aren't snug yet. We change him once or twice a day...he doesn't leak or spit up too often.
There's no way to really know how much you need b/c you don't know how big your kiddo will be. I'd say start minimally, and you can always get more if needed.
Also keep in mind if you have friends/family coming to visit in the first couple weeks, you might get clothes from them also. We got at least 10 NB onsies just from people visiting and wanting to bring something cute.
DS1 born at 34 weeks weighing 4lbs 8 oz wore NB clothing for 2 months.
DS 2 born at 39 weeks weighing 9lbs 4 oz did not wear NB clothing.
She is starting to outgrow some of the really small NB stuff but fits fine in 0-3 months right now.
She was 9 lbs 5 oz and 21 inches at birth. She went down to 8 lbs 1 oz and is now just under 10 pounds and almost 23 inches. We also CD, so some of the issue is the extra padding on her butt.
He never wore NB. He was 9lbs 2oz at birth. At 7 weeks he's 14lbs and in 3-6 month clothing already.
