ive been thinking about putting LO on a schedule but ive heard that sometimes having a baby on a schedule can be harder than not having one. is your LO on a schedule and if so what is it?
At this age, I find a routine to be much better than a schedule. In our case we follow a loose routine of waking, eating, having awake time (anything from a trip to the store, watching her big brother play outside, kickin' on the playmat, etc), then back down for a nap. Her awake times get longer throughout the day and are pretty consistent from day to day (she's awake for an hour after first waking up, then another hour after her first nap, 90 minutes after second nap, two hours in the evening). We do put her to bed at the same time every night.
I did the same thing with Drew and as he got older it slowly evolved into an actual schedule with specific times. But I find it better for all of us to let that happen slowly on it's own as LO matures. A routine creates consistency and predictability without the rigidity of a schedule. With kiddos this little, I think flexibility is your best friend!
yeah i think ill wait till isabella is alittle older before i start her on a schedule, she goes to bed around the same time everynight but i go by what she wants to do.
At this age, I think it's unreasonable to expect a real schedule. Like PP said, it's more of a routine, and it's fully flexible. They go through unexpected growth spurts, wakeful periods, days where they sleep around the clock, etc. The needs are ever changing at this point, and I just try to meet them.
We feed on demand and she sleeps when she needs to sleep. I don't feel like I can tell her "no, I don't care if you are tired/hungry/etc., it's not time for a nap/bottle/etc. and you have to wait another twenty-five minutes because that is the schedule "I" want you on."
She's only 12 weeks old. No.
She goes down roughly at 7 and sleeps until 5. That's about as much of schedule as we have, and it can vary depending on her needs. When she's awake, we do the play mat and read books, and lately I've been trying the Jumperoo as well (she loves it). Then bottle and generally speaking a nap. Rinse and repeat, as she goes.
