what's wrong with Vivian??

A lot of my family members have asked me what I'm going to name baby if its a girl. I told them I really love Vivian/Vivienne...and what do I get?? The nastiest sour faces I've ever seen. Is this name really THAT bad?? I think it's a beautiful name! It means Full of life, and I love that!

They keep saying its a "grandma name"...ummm, not really. I could go with Gertrude or Agetha (sp?) My aunt finally said, "you name your baby whatever you want"....Oh don't worry...I will. And I'm thinking we're gonna keep the name a secret.

It's a beautiful name and I think they're giving it the old lady treatment b/c just like Sophia, Isabella (names I may use if I have a girl), they are considered old/traditional names but what made people make those same comments your family did a few years ago, is now making the top names list.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan. This is silly, but I associate the name with the movie Legally Blonde, where the b!tch was named Vivian. I think it's just one of those names that sounds harsh (like Bianca, Constance, Ethel, Harriet, Ingrid...). Come to think of it, there have been many antagonists in literature/movies/television named Vivian. If you like the name, though, name your child what you'd like. Personality is not dictated by name.

If you and your H love the name, use it. Who cares what others think?

My friend just named her baby Prudence. You can bet she got a lot more faces that Vivian would ever get, but they love the name, and they stuck with it.

i really like that name this is why I am not telling family members our name choices because people have already voiced strong opnions. So I usually say we have a list but have not decided yet. Love that name i say go for it.

I absolutely love Vivienne! (or Vivian) It was actually on my list of girl names, but DH nixed it (he nixed pretty much everything I came up with though). I really wanted Vivienne Rose (Rose is a family name)...oh well.

I say if you like it, use it! Tell everyone else to STFU! Stick out tongue

There is NOTHING wrong with your name! This is YOUR child and you and your SO get to decide what the world will call YOUR baby! People think pregnancy is everyone's business, not sure why...but it is YOUR and your SO pregnancy and baby.....don't let them make you change the name that you love.

I think that it is a beautiful name. I also think that you should stop sharing names with your family. It's amazing how much input family and friends think they should have over the naming of your child.

I love the name Vivian/Vivienne. If we had found out we were having a girl we were going to name her Vivienne May after my great grandmother. And it's so cute that you can use the nickname Vivi. My family loved it.

I love Vivian, and if I were inclined to name my child after a famous person, I would name her Vivian after the actress Vivian Leigh (ok, so she was a manic depress adultress, but such a great actress and in my favorite movie of all time...). Don't worry about what your family says now, once the LO gets here they will love her and therefore deal with and learn to love whatever name you give her!

The name is not my style, but it is not a bad name by any means. All that matters is that you and DH love it.

I just wanted to say that this is why we will not be telling anyone LO's name this time around. We had a lot of comments about DD's name from the ILs prior to DD being born so we decided to keep the name a secret this time. You get a lot fewer comments that way.

I agree. i get a bitchy vibe from Vivian, or Viv for short. But really, who cares what we think? And who cares what your family thinks? That baby is cookin inside you for the next 20-some weeks - no one else's opinion counts.
