Re: One A Day prenatal w/DHA.....

  • If I remember the One A Day just has a separate DHA pill to take with the prenatal, but I could be wrong.

I've been taking Your Life prenatals with DHA (all in 1 pill) and they don't seem to bother me too much

  • Yes, my Dr said he wants me to take the DHA. I am taking the 'all in one' pill from Nature Made. Big Smile

edit to add: Mine do not have any fishy taste, and is a gel capsule (it's pretty big though) so it is easier to swallow and doesn't leave a bad taste. HTH.

  • I was prescribed a prenatal vitamin which includes DHA, prenate essential.  Although I could really do without the smell/taste, I am starting to get used to it.  With all the problems I had with just taking one pill, I couldn't imagine two.  I was taking the prenate and folic acid for the first 12 weeks, but the folic acid is nothing compared to other pills.

  • I started taking One-A-Day prenatals before I got pregnant and up until a couple of weeks ago. The only bad thing about them is you have to eat! The dha capsule is fishy, literally, like you ate a can of sardines. But if you take it mid-meal, it doesn't repeat on ya much.

Once I ran out, I got Naturemade in Costco which was cheaper and only one pill and results in no fishy taste!

  • I take them. Mostly because that's just what I grabbed at Target. The DHA is a gel capsule. I've never experienced any "fishy" taste, but I usually eat something with pills in general.

  • I take a sparate DHA pill, but it is made solely from plants and has no fish at all, and does NOT "repeat".  I know how some of the fish pills are, and it's horrible.  You can get the plant based DHA from Target, their own brand :)

  • My OBGYN RX'ed a seperate DHA pill in addition to the PNV. (She also told me to take one B6 tablet a night to help my headaches, bringing my pill intake to a whopping 3 pillls a night! Not fun)

But the DHA is supposedly very important in early brain development. I haven't experienced any fishy taste or burps or anything. Doesn't even smell.

  • My doc reccommended taking DHA as well.  I got the Target brand one, it's a gel capsule. I don't necessarily take it everyday, as sometimes it's hard for me to swallow two pills back to back.  And the DHA is kind of a large capsule. And if it's between taking that or my prenatal, my prenatal is going to win everytime.

  • I've been taking the one a day prenatal vitamins since we found out we're having a baby.  There are two separate pills...one regular prenatal vitamin and a separate one with DHA.  I have no complaints!

  • I take a separate fish oil supplement from Nature Made.  The taste doesn't bother me in the least, but I think they have a version that's burpless or less fishy or something.

I'm taking these as well.  I didn't feel great when I first switched to them, but then I started taking them at night and it has been much better.

  • I've taken them for a couple of months now and have had no problem with them. I switched to the OAD prenatals after having some issues with the horse pills my doctor prescribed - think Baby Mama. He said as long as they contain atleast 800 mcg of folic acid I would be fine.

I take them before bed and havent experienced any side effects. Sometimes I eat a few crackers after I take them, sometimes I don't. Either way, I have never felt sick.

  • I take a DHA supplement (target brand is the least expensive I can find). It doesn't have fish in it either so no worries with the fish smell. But my doctor told me to take a DHA. Also she recommended D3 (2000mg), it helps with jaundice and postpartum depression, so I also take that supplement on top of my multi and added folic acid. I take all vitamins before bed and never have experienced being sick from them.

I take these.  They were making me sick, so my sister-in-law (a nurse practioner) suggested taking them right before bed.  I've been doing that for the last month or so and have had no problems.
  • I apologize if this is a dumb question.... I forgot to ask my doc and don't have another appointment for 5 weeks.  Would fish oil pills be an acceptable form of a DHA supplement?

  • I've been taking the One A Day + DHA for over a year now.  My Dr. wanted me to start taking them 3 months before we started trying.  From what I've read, the DHA is supposed to be very important in the first trimester/early pregnancy when the major organs are forming.

I have to take it with food or I will feel sick to my stomach and get the fishy taste, but I still prefer them over the first vitamins I tried that really upset my stomach.

  • I take a Nordic Naturals DHA. It's really good as it's made from tiny fish at the bottom of the food chain thereby avoiding the heavy metals risk you get with cheaper brands. I'm also taking a PNV, extra folic acid and iodine. The PNV sometimes repeats but the DHA never does. I always take them with dinner so there's plenty of padding to keep them down ;-)

  • This is what I have been taking. As PPs have said, it is 2 pills and would definitely recommend taking them with food.  The gel pill does have a very distinct 'fishy' after taste which is less than pleasant.

  • I actually took One A Day Prenatal with DHA for 7 months before getting PG. Once I was PG my OB gave me a script for a different prenatal that also has DHA in it already, so check your label it might be in there (should be).
