Talking less?

Evan has about 20 words he can say and he understands a lot more, but in the past week we have noticed that he isn't really talking as much. He babbles what seem to be full sentences, but they aren't real words. He has started signing words he knows how to say. He also likes to growl a lot because it is fun, and adorable, but isn't using real words as much.

DH is worried that DS is regressing, but I think he is just processing new things and playing with sounds.

Oh, and he now says "what?" and points and says "what's this?" all the time now. I think he picked it up because DH keeps quizing DS to get him to talk more.

Any one else have a kid that stopped talking or used fewer words for a period of time?

Re: Talking less?

  • Cooper has done that.  When he started walking it was like he forgot how to talk!

Now his favorite word is "this."  I'll ask him "what's this?" and point to something and he goes "this...this...this."  He knows that it is and I've heard him say it.  I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Ally isn't talking less, but she's not saying words that she use to say.  Like she use to say mommy, clean up, cheese...but she hasn't said those words for over a month now and won't say them.  But she's added new words to her list.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.
