My LO is a preemie and he is 5 weeks old. He was born 6 weeks early. We brought him home from NICU 3 weeks ago. When we left NICU, they put him on Enfamil Enfacare for 2 feedings a day and the rest is breast milk. Ever since then he was constipated and would grunt and squirm and cry and would act like he was really trying to go poop. His pedi put him on iron drops and a multi-vitamin and continued the Enfacare for 2 feedings. He was still constipated. At his one month check-up I got the pedi to drop the Enfacare to 1 bottle a day and stop the iron drops but we added the multi-vitamin with iron. We finally had to give him glycerin suppositories and we got him un-plugged. Now he is going so much that his little hiney is raw and we have been putting on diaper cream which is starting to clear up the rash. He is still grunting and pushing. It normally happens after we give him the Enfacare bottle and sometimes with my breast milk. We were also giving him gripe water but that doesn't seem to have helped any. I called his pedi and spoke to the nurse this morning and she said that we were doing everything that they would recommend us to do. She said that we could stop the Enfacare for a day or two and see if that makes a difference. DH and I went and bought a can of Similac Soy formula to try and we also bought the store brand milacon drops since the name brand is on back order from the factory. Does it sound like my LO is lactose intolerant? Has anyone else had the same symptoms and issues with their LO? Please help...I hate seeing my little man in so much pain!
Re: Help! LO is very fussy...(very long...sorry!)
Could this be colic?
My son was born at 35 weeks and he was extremely fussy and colicy for about 4 months. I did EVERYTHING...mylicon seemed to distract him for a few minutes but that's about it. various gripe waters did nothing. The only thing that helped was giving him diluted sprite and water in a bottle. Yes, this sounds insane, but it helped him burp and get the gas out. It was the only thing that I feel actually helped at all. And if your baby is only sleeping 8 hours per day in 1 hour increments and crying all the hours (when he is not sleeping), you will try everything.
Hope it gets better for you and your LO soon!!
Has anyone checked him for silent reflux?
Do you want him on formula? It reads as though you're only doing that because the hospital started it.
I feel really badly that he's so sad
When my guy is upset it pushes a button within me that is sooo upsetting so can just imagine how difficult it is
