Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

does your lo ever take a super late nap?

I know they say to wake after a certain time, but it is 6 pm and he is soooo tired after a few rough nights teething, I can't wake him (he has been asleep since 4).  Would you wake?

Re: does your lo ever take a super late nap?

  • Until the past 2 months or so, my DD always took a nap from about 5-7 pm, got up for dinner, bath, and a little play, then went back down at 8:30-9pm.  I made sure she didn't sleep past 7 though.

    1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.

  • DD napped today from 4:15-6:45!!!  I just let her sleep, I just put her down for the night at 9:15 and she is tired.  DD is all screwed up from the 4th of July though.  We took her to see fireworks and have a totally messed up sleep schedule now.  She slept in this morning until 9am and will probably do the same tomorrow.  Hopefully, we will get on track soon!  I stay at home though so she has no real schedule she has to get back to.  Does your LO have to wake up early for anything??

  • Lately DD has been taking super late naps, and it is killin' me.  My cut off is she can't fall asleep for a nap before 4pm.  I also never have the heart to wake her!

  • If Lo's asleep, I let her sleep. Sometimes she'll go to bed at 9pm, get up at 10am and go down for a 2-2 1/2 hr nap at 11:30 am. I figure she must need her rest.

  • Nope.  I always make sure DD's down for a nap (at the latest) 2:00 and up no later than 3:30.  Sometimes when she's with my parents and overstimulated she won't go down for a nap until around 2:30/3:00 and I'll push it to 4:00 but that's my absolute max.  I don't like her getting off schedule and mess up her internal clock.  The only other exception I can think of is being sick.

  • My DS almost always takes a nap when we get home from daycare - typically down around 4:00.  He'll sleep for about an hour and I never let him sleep past 5:30.  After that, we do dinner/play and he's back in bed by 7:00.  No problems going back to sleep and sleeps until 6:30 typically.

ETA:  He has always been a bad napper at daycare, so he's wiped when he gets home.

  • LO takes a late nap on Fridays and Saturdays because we go out for dinner around 7 or 7:30pm and it makes sure he's well rested.  I'd let him sleep and then he'll probably go to bed later...

  • Usually DD goes down between noon and 1. A couple times it hasn't been till 2-3pm. Once or twice its been between 3-4pm and that was forcing her to sleep cause she was so crabby and tired.

  • DD was taking her second nap late...like 4:30 or 5...I would wake her up at 5:30 because I didn't want her screwing up her 7:30 bedtime. I just recently put two naps into one and now she sleeps from 12- 2pm and is good until 7pm.
