Went crib shopping today...

It was overwhelming! I know it's early but since I'm a teacher I'm trying to get what I can done during the summer.

 I'm frustrated because I really like the look of natural wood but everything is in dark wood or white nowadays. Also just about every crib is the convertible kind. Since we're hoping and planning for more than one kid, we would just reuse the crib and not convert it. Also they often convert to double beds and we would be putting our kids in twin beds. 

Anyone out there who already has kids have a convertible crib? A friend said they often have problems and I was wondering if that's true...

    My niece has one, Cache. It's extremely nice and they haven't had problems. She stayed in her crib, then dropped it and then made it into a toddler bed. She is now 3.5 and has had a full size bed since December. She absolutely loves it!

    Our convertible crib doesn't have problems. I like that it converts but DS Co Sleeps so we haven't used them.

    DD's is convertible.  Having the ability to convert to a toddler bed is really nice.  She is in the toddler bed now and she loves it.  She can get in and out herself, and it has a built in rail.  Like one of the prior posters said, I doubt I'd ever convert it to the full size bed (it can, but we'd probably get something else).  We will most likely move DD into a twin or full size bed when the new baby is ready for the crib.

    Just please don't buy furniture made by Sorelle. They have horrible C/S and are cheaply made but somewhat expensive.

    I had a convertible crib with DD but I honestly never converted it and just put her into a twin bed. Just because you get a convertible crib doesn't mean that you have to convert it. The Graco Lauren and Ikea Gulliver both come in a natural wood finish and both have great ratings in the baby bargains book.

    I'm planning on getting a mini crib from DaVinci. They are slightly smaller and then convert into a toddler, then twin size so the can use it  a long time and it saves space. We are military so we move a lot. Anything that saves space is great!

    DD's is convertible.  It converts to a toddler bed then a full.  It is really nice and was expensive, so we will probably eventually use it in a guest room or the kids' room.  We will probably move DD into another twin when new LO comes along.  New baby will be in the bassinet up until about 6 months, but I will want to get the room ready.  The new baby will probably use the crib and toddler bed.  Not sure though because DD will just be over 2 years old when the new baby is here.

    FWIW, I wouldn't not get a conv crib just because it converts.  Ours is solid as a rock!

    We have a convert from Munire, that we got for ds#1 about 5 years ago.  We have the conversion kit and will convert it after this child.  You don't need to get the conversion kit if you only plan to use it as a crib.  The traditional crib style have mostly been pulled off the market I believe due to issues with the side rails.
