S/O Housekeeper

I want to have a one-time cleaning done before DD #2 arrives.  I've called a couple of places to try to get quotes, but they all require a meeting at our house to give me an estimate.  That's fine, but they're only available to meet M-F 8-5 (When I'm at work).

So my question is, if you've used a housekeeper for a one-time service, approximately how much should I expect to pay?

I'll obviously have to have them come and give me a formal quote before they clean, but before I take time off of work, I'd like to see if it's something that's going to be doable for us :)

  • I think the going rate is around $25 per hour.

  • I pay $16.50/hour for our housekeeper. For a regular cleaning she is there approximately 4 hours. For deep cleanings she is there for 6-8 hours depending on my list of rooms for her.

When they did the deep cleaning before E was born, they were at the house about 7-8 hours.

  • We're hoping to do the same thing if we get unpacked enough - if not we'll do it soon after.I'll let you know how mcuh it was once we get it done.

We did a move out cleaning of our rental - 3 bdrm/1bath - 1100 square feet and it was $250 - best money spent and the lady said move outs were usually more since she scoured the stove, frridge, oven etc.

  • For a one time, I usually call a big name (Molly Maids, Maid Brigade), give the broad strokes of what I want done, they estimate a time and tell me how much it will be hourly.  The day of the clean, I have a priority list.  When they're running out of time, they call and I see where they are on the priority list and authorize additional time.  I've never done an in-person estimate.
  • No idea... but if you find a good one let me know! I'm going to start searching for a housekeeper to come every 2-3 weeks for when I go back to work... I can't remember who on the board suggested this a few days ago, but it's genius :) I love the idea of not doing housework on the weekends when I could be spending time with my family... definitely makes the idea of going back to work less heartbreaking.
  • I think it really depends on who you use and where you're located. I would call at least 3 people/service agencies and go from there.

  • We did a one time major cleaning before we hired her for monthly and it cost $250 for the first visit.
