Can you think of cute nicknames for Greta?

I can't think of any.  :(

Re: Can you think of cute nicknames for Greta?

  • Um... may I ask...

Why do you need a nickname?   It's short enough already and very cute as it is.

This.  I don't understand the need for a nickname.  I think Greta is short and sweet as it is!

  • Gigi! I always suggest that as a NN for G girl names (though it often gets shot down on this board).  I think it's adorable.

  • Not cute or short, but my co-worker calls her teen daughter named Greta "Heavy Metal Gretal". Stick out tongue

This!  Greta is super cute and doesn't need a nn.

  • i dont think you need one.

nicknames can come from actions and middle names too. and sometimes kids just name themselves once they start talking. a friend in high school was matthew who could only call himself "foo" when he was learning to talk and it stuck. Another pal went by "Buck" because he always wanted to be a cowboy and he was daddys little "buck-aroo" nicknames can come from a variety of places.

Greta is already a nickname for Margaret so I'm sure that is why some people would be confused by your question. Some cute petnames I've heard for Greta are Grey or Gigi. HTH

  • I'm not trying to be rude, but why do you need to give her a nickname if Greta is a perfectly fine name? Why name her one thing and call her something else? Just name her the nickname as her name and be done with it.
  • I think of Greta as a NN for Margaret (and also a rocking standalone name). It's definitely too short to need a NN.

but you have to say it like you are a rapper holding a gun and a 40 oz.....

This, although I think naming a child "Greta" is also totally okay.  I don't think it needs a nickname!

  • Greta is a nickname- it's short for Margareta/ Margaret. The only thing I can think of is GiGi. It's NMS but I know an adorable little girl with that nickname so I have a good association with it.

How about Gertie? (Drew Barrymore in ET.) I don't think Greta is a nn for Margaret only. (I also think Gretel, from Sound of Music.)

  • I'd have to agree with everyone else on this. It's a sweet name, doesn't need a nick!
  • Greta is a beautiful name! I say just plan on calling her that and any nickname may come naturally from something else (as another poster said, associated with actions, characteristics, etc). I would definitely not name my child something pretty like Greta, then ruin it by calling them Gigi or Gertie. Blech.
  • Since you can't think of any, that's usually a good sign that you don't need one.  Name her Greta, call her Greta.

  • I don't think you need one but if you are really determined maybe Etta?
