Food Allergy

Puzzeling reaction

DD woke up from her nap and has been playing normally. She had a sippy cup with water and a few chunks of watermelon, which she's had loads of with no reaction. She was playing when all of a sudden I looked over at her and her face was totally broken out in hives. She seemed to be feeling fine and was happy, but her face just looked horrible. I looked around for anything she might have gotten hold of, but I didn't see anything new. She's allergic to our dogs, but they were outside and I had vacuumed during her nap.

I'm at a loss. I gave her some Benadryl and that seemed to clear it up no prob. She hasn't had any new foods and she's never had a reaction to watermelon. I'll try a bit at dinner, but I'm really hoping it's not that. She loves her watermelon! It's one of the few things I can get her to eat all the time.

Re: Puzzeling reaction

  • Oh no - that is puzzling!  I'm glad to hear Benadryl took care of it.  Keep us posted on how she does with watermelon at dinner.

  • If she's had a reaction to something today and you suspect it's watermelon, I wouldn't try it again today for fear of overloading her system. I think I'd hold off and try watermelon again tomorrow after the effects of this reaction (and the Benadryl) have worn off.
