Mommas of swing sleepers

Our bedding was custom made so we only have two sheets. Because DS now sleeps on his side or stomach we quit using our sheet savers so his second stomach dump before 10pm meant he was sheetless. He naps in his swing during the day so DH and I decided rather than co-sleep the entire night we'd put him in his swing and see how long he lasted. We kept the swing on (it's a/c adapted) and he slept until 4:30. This is completely unheard of in our house. I'm still in a bit of a state of shock.

Do you regret letting LO night sleep in the swing? Do you leave it on? Have you tried to transition back to a crib? If so was it a success?

Re: Mommas of swing sleepers

  • DD sleeps in a rock n' play next to our bed, not quite the same thing as a swing though. she never really took to sleeping in the pack n' play, so i dont know about adjusting back to that. the rock n play is good to 25 lbs or til she can push herself up both of which will be awhile. anyway, DD has always slept really long, usually 11-12 to 5-6 am, until recently sadly she started getting me up at 3-4 for a feeding. she does go right back to sleep, and usually i can too, so i shouldnt complain.

My son slept in his swing at night for the first month and a half or so, because he wouldn't sleep flat on his back in the co-sleeper. It was a life saver! I was concerned at first but the LC we took a class with said it was fine, babies don't really create sleep habits until after 3 months. Over time we gradually transitioned to the co-sleeper and he is sleeping in it 7-8 hrs straight now. :)

  • My 3.5 month old son is a swing sleeper and we are trying to transition him into the crib.  We initially had him sleeping in the Pack and Play downstairs for the first month or so, but that usually meant I slept on the couch to get up for feedings.  Once he started sleeping for longer stretches we wanted to move him upstairs with us, so we started using the swing in his nursery, because I wasn't quite ready to put him in the crib yet.  Do I regret it? Yes and no. No, because like you said he slept so well in the swing which allowed us to get some sleep as well. But yes because he has become dependent on that swinging motion to fall asleep (we turn the swing off after he is asleep for about an hour).  This week we have started trying to break him of the swinging (he is still sleeping in the swing but without it on), it has been going ok, lots of tears from both me and him.  After he is able to fall asleep on his own we are going to work on getting him in the crib.  Side note: LO had reflux so he has never slept flat on his back, to get him used to being in the crib we put him in it during the day with the kick and play piano or a ceiling projector and it has helped.  Before the minute I put him in the crib he screamed his head off, now he goes for about a 15-30 minute stretch a couple times a day.

    Oooo yeah!

Thanks for the advice ladies. DH was supposed to have baby duty last night and he always just gives up so fast. First fuss and he was brought to bed with us no attempt to keep him in his crib at all... how I'm going to handle every 2-4 hours once I start school in the fall I don't know...
