Comment from my best friend....

So LO is almost 9 months old now and I had to take him for his check-up. I said to my best friend that I felt bad that he had to get his blood drawn at this check up due to his problems at birth and they wrap that tight rubber band thing around his arm. She said "Yeah well at least he doesnt have to get a tube stuck up his vagina like my daughter did" (Her daughter has UTI issues and is 8 years old). I said "No. actually he has already had those (tubes) in his lungs, shoved down his throat and stuck up his nose for the first three weeks of his life" (not to mention everything else). She said "Oh, yeah, I always forget about that because he is fine now."

It just made me so mad that she wrote it off like it was nothing.

Why, still, after all this time, do comments like this still bother me!?!?!

Re: Comment from my best friend....

  • I hate when people do that. Regardless of what your DS went through that was a jerky comment. You have every right to be upset that your child is in pain without her trying to make it a contest. I mean, if that were the case then no one would ever be allowed to complain because someone ALWAYS has it worse. On the positive side he is such a cutie! Eta- just re read and I'm guessing the "he's fine now" is what bothered you? I wouldn't worry about it too much, that would bother me too but in reality I would be thankful she didn't go through what you and your DS went through, she might not have been able to handle it so well.

  • So to her its a competition? 'My 8 year old daughter has it more rough than your 9 month old preemie!' Ridiculous.

  • she sounds like a "one upper". I hate it when people feel the need to do that!
