BFers: How many nursing sessions 2.5 month old

Curious how many nursing sessions in 24 hours for a 2.5 month old?  Right now DS2 is nursing about 7 times but every now and then does only 6.  Does this seem about right?  DS1 was a preemie so everything was really really different with him.  When do most babies start dropping feedings?--I'm thinking DS2 may be getting ready to drop down to 6 nursing sessions soon.

(And yes, DS2 is gaining weight well, good amount of dirty diapers, etc.)  DS2 is about 12 pounds.

  • i honestly don't keep track. i'm still kinda feeding on demand...i'm following EASY but his naps vary so much that i find he eats different amounts and times every day.

  • We still feed on demand but it's usually between 7-10. Her nursing sessions vary between 5-15 minutes. Depends on the kind of day we are having too.

I think that's about where we are.  She still eats pretty much every two hours (I thought that was supposed to slow down), with maybe one or two feedings going 3 hours apart if she's napping.   She's a healthy size girl too, about 13.5 pounds.  So I think we're about the same.

  • I'm also feeding on demand.  The wee hour feedings (12 am-5 am) LO only wakes up once but during the day we're at every 3-4 hours.  So to make a guess I'd say we're at 6 feedings in a 24 hour period.

  • I feed on demand. LO eats 8-9 times per day, so about every 2 or 3 hours. He cluster feeds in the evening then goes down to sleep from 8:30pm-1:00am. However, LO was a preemie and is VERY determined to catch up. He is at 12 lbs from a birth weight of 4lbs 7oz!

LO has been having 7 feedings a day since he was a few weeks old.  As long as he is gaining, right amount of dirty diapers, I wouldn't worry.  My doctor said to trust him.  He will let you know when he is hungry.

  • DS is still nursing about 8-10 times in a 24 hour period. He goes about 2-3 hours during the day, and 3-4 (sometimes 5) hours at night.

  • When she was 1.5 mos old, DD was eating between 15 and 17 times a day. I doubt it's too much less than that now. I need to keep a count tomorrow and find out. I wish she eat more in fewer feedings, she would probably be able to take longer naps if she did.
