I'm missing the first page, but maybe that's a good thing since it contained the original crazy, but the rest of the post was filled with lots of useful information and links to charities. Just trying to help.

Gardencrazy:Veering slightly off topic -- does any else wonder why people in these situations don't move somewhere else? If I lived in a part of a country where 4 of my 6 kids were dying from starvation because of famines, I think that's a great reason to move to someplace where food is readily available. Same with other natural disasters -- if my home is threatened by wildfires or hurricanes every year, I would be looking for a job and home someplace where my kids would be safer. It's not always an easy decision, but if it means a safer life for my children, I would do what it takes to make a better life for my family.I totally wonder this all the time. Like why don't they just move? I mean, wouldn't it be better if Red Cross sent U-Hauls than that way gross oatmeal crap they're always dumping out the back of helicopters. Who eats that shits anyway? PS: I'm being sarcastic and you're a fuckings idiot. As a matter of fact, this entire post is a fantastic endorsement of international policies against the stupid reproducing. There is no room for nasty comments like this to anyone on the board!! Just for the record. Nothing i said is one tenth as offensive as what you have posted. But I'll be happy to leave. My language offends you, your stupid offends me. We probably don't have much in common.

I mean many days these women don't even have water to drink but they should just take their birth control pill and stop birthing those babies. I mean the gall of them, for real.It is painful to know that people live in such a narrow minded exsistance.

First, there is no "famine" yet in the horn of Africa. They are nearing a famine and there is a huge food shortage crisis. Results are expected in 2-3 weeks to see if it has reached famine stage. However, that is beside the point. This is caused mainly due to the drought. The worst drought in over 60 years. This has nothing to do with how many kids people have. It's the environmental factors that are leading up to this. Farmers are watching their crops die off, livestock is dying off due to not having food/water as well.In short, this aid being given to them has NOTHING to do with people "not having an incentive to work." They CAN'T work when everything is dying off around them due to no food/water. Having been to Ethiopia, I can safely say they are some of the hardest working people I've ever met. I have images in my head that will always remain with me and the saddest was watching kids drink from mud puddles on the side of the road. People have to walk 20+ miles to fill a small jug of water. No one says don't help those in the US. However, we are fortunate that there are resources and homeless shelters, food programs, etc. to help. The problem has to do with people being able to access that help - I encourage you to talk to your representatives about that. These programs do not exist in other countries until the UN, World Food Program, etc. step in to help and at that, there's only so many camps they can set up and people are still having to walk 12 days to reach a camp.In the end, this food shortage has to do with severe drought where crops and animals are dying off. Overpopulation is an entirely different subject. From Mill Dog to Therapy Dog!

And so it's okay for you to make sweeping generalized and incredibly insulting statements towards an entire continent but heaven forbid another poster take issue with that?!?

Sugr, don't forget that according to the OP those babies are PLANNED. IIRC, FertilityFriend subscriptions are huge in Africa... what with all the charging, BDing, and TTCing to deliberately have starving children. I bet PreSeed sales are through the roof there. If only they'd move someplace better. Sigh.Oh totally you know they probably all have BRU registries a mile long and use all the extra water and food they have to barter presents for eachother. The desert is barren but god forbid they don't have nice little cave-nurseries for their 1 gazillion kids. Greedy bastards.
